Hey guys, i'm thinking of buying a laptop for uni, but im not sure on what to get, i just need a Shite Load of battery life, and generally nice graphics for games. So far, i have the option of getting: a) AMD 64 MOBILE TURION- 2.2Ghz ATI Radeon 128mb (Unshared memory i think.) 1GB ram, 80gb HHD, 15', DVD Burner, for $900 4.5Hrs Battery Life b) Same specs but with Pentium M, for $700. Now, im taking into consideration, i want to keep and use this laptop for the duration of my course (4yrs), and so dar believe the Turion will hold with its 64Bit advantage, as Next OS will Be 64 bit, let alone the minimum requirements in 3-4years probably requiring 64bit.Iam getting either laptop for very cheap cause im going to Somalia for a couple weeks and i can pick it up there for that price.

Well, if anyone can find some decent comparisons (especially with regards to battery life), I'd love to see them. The only one I know of is here

This shows Turion to have better battery life under normal laptop use (where the CPU isn't often busy).
While the Centrino laptop lasts longer at constant load. (Part of this might be explained by the centrino having a crappy GPU, which presumably sucks less power under load.

But still, I'm not entirely happy suggesting Turion based on only one comparison. (Especially because Centrino and Pentium M are commonly known to be damn efficient battery-wise)

Still, if I were to choose, I'd probably go with the Turion one. As you say, the 64 bit capability could come in handy in a few years time. And it performs very well.

You wouldn't be dissatisfied with the Pentium M one either, however.

Is size an issue for you? What are the physical specs of the laptops?

umm, size really isnt a worry, but i guess it is a factor, i dont really want to carry bricks around, u know what i mean. I think so far turion looks alot better
