I hope this isn't a repost. iPod Nano Whats wrong with the iPod mini? Or the iPod shuffle? Are they trying to play catch-up with Creative? Creatives many MP3 players. In my opinion I think its a good idea to milk the whole iPod idea for all its worth, but eventually they are going to have to aim for quality, not size.(I have seen many an iPod break, or die out unexpectedly). Looking at the site, it is $200 for 2GB and $250 for 4GB. Who in thier right mind would pay that kind of money! I think people are going to see this and realize the iPods is not worth the price, not with the many alternatives that are available. Whats everyone else's opinions on this new iPod? BTW: Please don't flame me or my opinions. [smile]

I think you should replace "alternatives" with "better options"

Dude! It's slim. We both know we're both going to get one.
...Wait, No.

I should grab an MP3 player one of these days, though. It sucks not having anything to carry music around with me all the time. [sad]

I think that you are wrong. The small iPods clearly sell well, or apple would not release annother small iPod. really what this is doing is adding color to the mini iPod line. I think however that they should have released this under the name of the iPod mini.
You think thats nuts

"Who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for less storage" is exactly what cynics said about the iPod Mini when it first came out. The Mini was only around 50 bucks cheaper than the regular model, but had way less storage (I forget the specifics). And yet it was still ridiculously popular.

For iPod customers, it's not about being rational. It's not about getting the best ratio of storage to price. It's about sexiness. The drool factor. Getting the coolest new thing.

Also consider the ridiculously overpriced and ridiculously popular Motorola RAZR phone. It's the same phenomenon.

My girlfriend would probably ask me to buy it. Her parents bought her an iPod shuffle and I loaded the songs she wanted onto it (I also showed her how and she nodded saying she understood everything). But now she wanted to swap songs and "forgot" how to do it. It took her about 2 hours to figure it out on her own. She told me to not buy her the iPod mini because it is too hard to put on songs.

It saves me money, but I can't believe how easy it was for me to put songs on (getting them off the iPod and back on my computer is a huge hassle).
By the time I need a new iPod, I am sure there will be 200 GB versions for a decent price.

I want one. The new one with the QWERTY keyboard coming out next year. I'm sure it will be $450 or so, but it has the options I want [lol].

And i'm happy with my little 256MB, £30 MP3 Player. Why does it need any more than 256MB? Its simple enough to switch over a few songs since its also a USB Pendrive. iPods suck, el'cheapo MP3 Players are the future! Besides, I break them too easily if I crash, bail, etc whilst riding, so the price is good enough a reason not to go any better!

Comparing the Razr and the iPod doesn't work. The Razr has more to offer them most other phones(including size) All the iPod nano has to offer is size. There is really nothing the Nano has that the regualr iPod doesn't have.

I only have a 128 MP3 player and I think it's ok. I mean I can just switch songs whenever since it's USB but I guess having more storage would be nice.

I want to buy a small solid state mp3 player...but that price is not too cool. I admit, though, it looks slick.

Where have you been the past few years? People have been paying it and will continue to do so.

I've had my regular iPod for several years now and have no regrets. Until the market produces something that can compete, Apple will continue to dominate. In the meantime, Creative and Sony will continue to throw unintuitive not-unlike-brick-like mp3 players at us.

The Nano's color screen is pretty sweet, but what about the different color exteriors like the mini had? Obviously the iPod mini wasn't a bad idea because every Apple story I went to last year couldn't keep them in stock.

BTW, while swapping songs on a flash-based player is easy enough, nothing beats just loading up every mp3 on your hard drive. There has been many occasions where I have been very happy to have many song choices instead of being depressed for not forseeing song-listening mood better.

I get close to 24 hours of battery life one 1 AA batery, and when it dies, I can change it.

I challenge anybody to find a better portable music player.

I just bought a ****ing Mini...
Jeez, this sucks, I thought their announcement was going to be an iPod PDA (that was the rumour...), not a colour replacement for my brand-spanking new iPod Mini.

But it's made by Sony... I'd rather by something that didn't randomly stop working in one ear (two pairs of old headphones), melt (current headphones) or need hitting to work (PS2). Everything I have that is made by Sony lasts about 2 weeks - shame these headphones sound awesome, which kinda makes up for the shoddy build quality.
Ah well. Give me a Creative player any day. Might not be sexy in looks, but I buy a player for being sexy in sound. [smile]

I saw right after this that the Nano is available in Black also.

I wish they weren't getting rid of the brushed metal look. I like it so much more than the translucent plastic look.

Perhaps that's just in europe... Over here, sony == quality. I have had my CD player in my car working perfectly. The playstation I had bought used worked wonderfully. I never had problems with my PS2 either, and I have a 7 year old set of head phones. *shrug*, and on top of that, my minidisk player is practicaly immortal.

Ok, you do have a valid point with that. They look like left over blade runner props. But in my experience, anything techicaly wrong with them is a user generated problem.
