I have a small router problem. The last few weeks me and my roommates got a router to network our computers so we could play games together in different rooms everything work great. Last week we got cable modem and that worked to. 2 nights ago the cable modem stopped working thinking it was just down for everyone I left it alone. Last night still down. Now cable workes if I have it connected to my comp, but doesn't if it is directly linked to the router then to the computers. Could the router of broke?? Just hopeing you guys could help me. Thx for your help

If you havn't banged the router around at all then it is unlikely that it is broke. Go to the command prompt on a computer on your network and run ipconfig and paste the output here.

Alright now:

Windows ip configuration

0 ethernet adapter:

ipaddress 192.168.2.3
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.2.1

1 ethernet adapter

ipadress 0.0.0.0
subnet mask 0.0.0.0

edit:

games still work on the lan just not the net

You're not on the same subnet as your router. Normally the first three numbers of your IP and default gateway's IP should be the same.
I'd say that either you've chosen the wrong IP and should change it to 192.168.2.2, or the IP of the gateway is incorrect and should be set to 192.168.3.1

Is your router set to allow dhcp? And are your computers set up as DHCP or with static ip's?

Is there some sort of PPPOE login that you need to configure in your router?

Also, try calling your cable company and ask them to release your IP, I've seen some problem occur when trying to hook a router up to a cable modem because the IP wasn't released.

Yes, call the cable company. The excact same thing happened to our internet for about a week, and only a direct connection to a computer would work (Xboxlive, however, would not work no matter what). I messed with everything to the best of my knowledge, and nothing happened except the XBL troubleshooter failed at an earlier stage.
My mom (I'm 16, gimme a break) called the cable company and they apparently fixed everything from there by "changing the IP addresses", or so I was told ( I was at school).

Well thx for the replies however my brother did some trial and error and has fixed it. Even he didn't know what he did to fix it. So, so far its working. But Im still gonna call the cable comp. tomarrow.
