I was wornding what the best IDE is for PHP programming? It be nice if it included coding for other stuff like HTML or what not but i really can't spend much money on it. my price limit is about 50.00 dollars, not higher that that.

I find vim perfect for php programming, especially when I can run it on the same computer as the site will be on at once.

UltraEdit is also good if you want Windows software. It also have direct FTP save/load and project settings. And you can try it for free. I would try it if I were you. It even have a database interface nowdays I think where you can fiddle with your database tables.

and its 39.95$ for a full version. Worth it imo.

Dev-PHP is very good, and free. My company uses it in actual production environment, and we don't need anything more from a php editor.

Although it's just a text editor, I use SciTE for PHP coding. It colour codes syntax, and is scriptable. Plus, it's open-source so you can hax it. The editing control within, Scintilla, has been used in several commercial and FOSS products as well.

Personally, I use a PuTTy session to a test server and a recent version of the Midnight Commander, which includes syntax highlighting for PHP.

I recommend you check here, though. It's a list of free PHP IDEs, many of which seem to be pretty decent. And the price is right :)

Yeah, I used to use Textpad at work when I was working as a game scripter. It's good.

TextPad, while not free, is the best file editor for everything (c, php, html, text, etc.) I highly recommand it.

Yep, I agree. I use it for all of those except C/C++. I even prefer it when writing Java (I'm not a fan of JBuilder).

I'll second UltraEdit. It's a great all purpose "programmers" text editor. They also just release UltraStudio which has everything UltraEdit does but also can integrate compilers.

I used to just use Dreamweaver back a year or two ago when I did some php stuff for school. Now I'd probably lean more towards SciTE or something like that.

I am yet to find one better - I used to use Dreamweaver, but this is so much better. [smile] Oh, and it's free for home and commercial use. You can't ask for much more than that. I use it every day, what with web dev being my current job...

I probably would have but the built-in ftp is horrible.

I have downloaded Dev-PHP and I take a look. It´s great! Until now... I used Dreamweaver but I think dev-cpp is a free good alternative. ;) :)
This is my gift. This is my curse.

I use Crimson Editor as my text editor for everything but C++(MSVC) and Common Lisp(EMacs).

I use jEdit for all of my programming... it has sytax highlighting for everything I have ever used, and has many plugins for many languages that do everything from code-beautifying to refactoring.

Thier website is www.jedit.org/, ad here is their feature list: jEdit's Features. and here is a decent screeny

Oh, 'tis free also...
