Wow.

However, I'll probably never play it. The first one had 20 minutes of play, with the rest being long conversations. Why doesn't Kojima just make movies? Where 2 and 3 the same way?

I wonder what the storyline is suppose to be there. Looks a lot like US equipment, and whats with the roaring robots?

Your loss if you never play it then.
I'm not against non intereactive parts, has I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan. But compare this to Splinter Cell or Manhunt, both stealth action games. I can have conversations while the game is going on, and in Manhunt, can even hear the director in my headset.

Why in MGS4 do I want to watch Snake sneak around, take the gun and then wait in the shadows while talking to a robot, seemingly forever? Why can't I the player, be the one taking that gun, and finding cover while the troops pass. And then finding the robot, and having the small conversation with it?
All the suspense of hiding from the robots was taken away, because you know you didn't mess up. You did your ten minutes to get to the next FMV. [sad]

That said, it looked real nice.

Here is Metal Gear Acid 2 from TGS

I can't speak for MGS3, but MGS1&2, weren't to bad about this, from what I recall. After you beat the game, you could skip the dialouge the second time around. And the dialouge wasn't that bad either, for the most part. It's one of those games that can suck you in, and you can play it for hours.

I absolutely hate games that are actually more movies than games. It must be because I just plain hate stories in games. Everyone is always saying 'game x was awesome because the story was so good', or 'game y sucked balls because it had such a stupid plot'. Personally I would rather have a game dev company spend their time on gameplay, features, more weapons, more enemies, performance tuning, AI, basically anything other than story. I know Im alone in this, but I just really hate how over-rated stories are in games. If you want a frikkin story, go read a book or watch a movie. They will always be better than games as far as stories go. I mean sure, come up with a really simple premise, for example, "aliens invaded earth and you must kill em all to save our chicks from being stolen away". Thats perfect. But if you spend any more than 5 minutes coming up with a story (I know some game dev companies spend months designing complicated stories with plot twists and all kinds of shit), then you are wasting your time and would be much better off making a good game.

This seems to be the trend in console games much more than it is in computer games. Ive been playing comp games ever since doomI and warcraftI, but only recently (the past few months) been introducded to consoles (xbox, ps2). Renting an xbox game is basically like renting a moive, except there might be a little bit of interactivity on the users part, and maybe you get to choose to be evil or good at 2 or 3 points during the game.

Sorry about the rant. I guess Im just wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

MGS1 was one of the most enjoyable game playing experiences I've ever had.

that is, until I played MGS3. The game is bloody brilliant.

(we're not going to talk about 2. Let's just assume 2 didn't happen).

Sort of like how there are 2 BF games before BF2? :P BF:V never really happened, anyone that says it does is crazy!

I guess I'm in the camp that prefers more gameplay than cinema. I did love No One Lives Forever however, and I was able to enjoy MGS 1 and 3 (2 had WAY too much cinema for me, however).

Edit: Wow, the American voice actor for Snake sounds a lot better than the Japanese one. (not so for Otacon, he did have more personality in english though)

Fun fact of the day, the voice of Solid Snake is David Hayter, one of the writers for the x-men movies.

Do the newer games still have the VR missions? I actually really enjoyed that part in MGS1

The only thing that video showed me was that he's old and it has really pretty FMVs. Nothing about the game though.

Sneak around
Snap necks
Trigger alert mode
Run
Watch 40 hour cutscene
Repeat

Also, the MGS series doesnt use FMVs, all cutscenes are rendered with the in game engine.

This is correct. The first game did use a motion blur filter for the cut scenes that it did not use for the game, but that was it.

Man, now I want to play the #1 again.

I wonder if that coughing fit of Snake's was lung cancer or FoxDie finally catching up with him. Hmm, actually, FoxDie doesn't seem likely, that was designed to cause heart attacks, not hack-up-my-lungs-to-death.

But the whole eyepatch thing has GOT to be explained. Is Snake really turning into Big Boss? It seems rather anti-climatic to perpetuate the cycle - the legendary warrior becomes disillusioned, his enemies clone him and use the clone to destroy him, the clone becomes the new legendary warrior, rinse and repeat.

The Boss from MGS3 said she had had a child taken from her, who is that child? It certainly wasn't Solid Snake, Solid Snake is a straight up clone of Big Boss. It wasn't Raiden, Raiden is too young.

Was Solidus Snake actually killed? I don't remember. If Solid Snake is that old, how freaking old is Revolver Ocelot (because you KNOW that dude is showing up, he's the only one to be in all three previous games). I mean, Ocelot looked that old the FIRST time Snake came out of retirement. He's got to be decrepit.

Solidus was killed. He fell from the top of the arena after you hacked him to death with your sword.

*MGS 3 Spoiler*

I believe it is explained that Ocelot was born in a battlefield, and The Boss had her child on a battlefield in an extra codec conversation if you call The Boss at the right time. Its widely believed that Ocelot is the son of The Boss.

doesn't seem likely. Revolver Ocelot was maybe 20yr old in MGS3, which means he was born some time in the early 40's (so that would make him nearly 80 for MGS4, if I'm guessing right on the time frame, which I did for MGS3). Did The Boss have the child in the middle of WWII, when she was in operations with the OSS? I know she did have the child *in the middle of a battle field* (how she was fighting while pregnant is beyond me, but meh), but I was under the impression that it was after the end of WWII.

Maybe it's possible.

Crap, looks like I'll be spending some time on the playstation these next few weeks.
