I was just wondering what the fastest way to draw a background image in OpenGL is. I thought drawing a texture-mapped quad would be best, but it seems quite slow. mike http://www.coolgroups.com/

it is the fastest, though i think p-buffers work well to. did you disable blending when you draw the background?

Also, you might want to draw it last so you benifit from the early depth test. Assuming you are using the depth buffer.

Thanks, but I'm not using the depth buffer.

What did that other guy (anist) say, and what happened to his post?

disable depth test (if you draw it first) and blending when drawing the quad. also: turn off lighting and anything else you aren't using. put it in a display list if you need to. i also said pixel buffers may be the way to go.
