I've been going around and installing the quake games, mainly because there nice games, and i want to become less noobish at them. Quake, and quake2 run perfectly fine. Quake3 however...

GLW_StartOpenGL() - Could not load OpenGL subsystem.
Was the error i got.

I don't know how to precede... Any help would be very, very welcome. From, Nice coder
Click here to patch the mozilla IDN exploit, or click Here then type in Network.enableidn and set its value to false. Restart the browser for the patches to work.

I just installed the newest drivers for my video card (an Sis 6326), and it still didn't work. (same error. Cannot load the opengl subsystem).

Nice card, looks like latest drivers are 7 years old. Try using some shitty resolution like 320x200 16bpp. Maybe it is time to upgrade?

That's a pretty crap videocard. Run a program like OpenGL Extension Viewer to check what GL version your card supports and to see if you have hardware acceleration. Also you could write a program to list the possible pixel formats available to your card, because it looks like q3 can't set the display mode properly.

SiS hardware is pretty dire. It does look from the log like it's trying to find a device mode it can use, for the first two checks it finds 23 modes but for the last one it doesn't find any.

From that Sis card specs:
Quote:

...

OS Support Windows 95, Windows 98
Windows NT 4.0/5.0
Windows 3.1
OS/2

Drivers Support DirectX 6.0
OpenGL MCD
VPE

Technology - 3.3V technology
208-pin PQFP

There you have your problem (emphasis added): they don't even have an ICD. Q3 is probably unable to find an appropriate accelerated PFD.

Update your graphics card. Or you can still try playing using a software renderer.

Thanks. (/me is not very graphics savvy...)

How would i change it to a software renderer?
