I hate Philips

I bought a cdrw 800 series from philips a while back and it worked fine. I updated to windows XP, burned like 2 cds and know it doesn't work. When i try to open it it just freezes up the computer and when i finally get a CD in it says it has no cd in it. With my understanding of internal CDRs is that they have no drivers and uses windows drivers instead. I tried to find one at philips website, but they dont even list the product!. So i have resorted to askin on this forum. Got any suggestions?

Look for a firmware upgrade.

IDE drives don't generally have drivers in the traditional sense, but they do have microcontrollers onboard that might have faulty programming. The programs for microcontrollers are (usually) stored in flash ram (or eeprom or some other writable memory), so fixes can (and often are) made long after the product ships

Did your CD-RW come with CD(s)?

If not, Why don't you post your CD-RW model number and all the good stuff so I
have a look for ya.

Thats the problem, its so hard cause philips dont have no updates for the product on its sight, but im a keep lookin

naw i got it installed like 2 years ago at bestbuy and i threw the box away, but it only had the cd in the box for the software to burn cds

Take the drive out and see if it has a full product number anywhere. Usually it's printed on the top. At the very least, you could get a serial number which the company can usually use to find out the exact product model.
