I just downloaded Blender today and went through a little tutorial to make an animation of a walking gingerbread man. I exported the animation to a .x file. It took about 45 seconds to export. The DirectX Viewer that comes with the DX9.0c SDK wouldn't load the .x file it exported. I'm curious what you Blender users out there have done to get Blender-created animations into games. If this is the wrong forum, let me know :-) ~BenDilts( void );

Some of the exporters for Blender dont work well. Try searching for a newer version of the x file exporter.

Or write your own. All of the scripting is done in Python which is very easy to just pick up and use. It didn't take me very long to get it working.

I've played with it a bit and the newer X-exporter I downloaded exports meshes okay, but fails on animations.

Point is, if I use the subdivide surface (to round out a boxy character) functionality, the export only gives the pre-subdivided surface. I tried the Face-Convert to triangles, but it didn't give any results. Anyone know how to make the subsurfacing permanent and erase the original that it's derived from?

Thanks,

I have used Blender very successfully for creating assets for Torque and OGRE. In fact it is often more reliable than the MAX and Maya exporters for the same engines.

To make the subdivision permanent you have to enter edit mode. In edit mode select the faces you want to subdivide then press "W" and select "Subdivide Smooth".
