Team name: Aboleo Tempus Temporis Project name: Final Fantasy VII Remake Brief description: A remake of the classic game, Final Fantasy VII. We will start out ONLY with the first level, and see where it goes. Target aim: Freeware game, just a project for fun. If it were retail we would probably get sued:) Compensation: Sorry, this will not be a paying position. Technology: PC platform, I don't really care what coding language is used, and I don't care if it's DirectX or OpenGL. Talent needed: Well, you will need the skills described below, in order to code the engine. Team structure: There was another on the team with me, but he left. I am currently doing the 3D modeling, animation, and textures. I could definetly use help on the textures, but that isn't the main concern. Website: Currently, there is none, I was waiting for the project to kick off before creating a site. Contacts: My email is Tommykraft@msn.com, my MSN is, Tommykraft@msn.com, and my AIM is, piealpha6792351. Additional Info: If you have played Final Fantasy VII, then I don't need to explain the story line. I may post some screenies later, but I want to get the textures done first. I am wanting to make an RPG type game, kind of along the lines of the Lord of the Ring games, or Star Wars Episode Three game, in terms of combat. We just want to change the combat system, and upgrade it to look better. We are in search of coders, moddelers, animators, and texture artists. We basically have the modelling and animation part down, but the part we really need help with is the game engine. I myself have tried learning OpenGL and I really don't like it. So, we need a crack (pun??) team of coders behind us to make the general engine. We also need it to beable to use 3D models and be able to play the animations ingame. I commonly use Bipeds in Max, but if bone data is easier to code, than that's okay. The reason why I say Max is because I don't have the money or time to learn another program. Texturing also presents a problem, but the main issue is getting the engine done. If you would like to help, contact me on Aol Instant Messenger at piealpha6792351, or tommykraft@msn.com MSN Messenger, which is also my email. Or you could just reply to this thread, or send me a private message. Thanks Sincerely Tommy A.K.A. Agent 007. [Edited by - agent 007 on September 22, 2005 5:46:22 PM]

If this is a paid position, then send me an email at bradsnobar@netscape.net and we can work something out.

I have been working on an engine that will meet your needs. It is written in C# and uses opengl. I have some basic terrain functionality, camera movement, and vector math done and will have basic 3ds model functionality added pretty soon (in the next day or two). Also, I am adding an embedded (Pascal) scripting langauge (that may be retargeted to compile to msil at a future date) to the engine. I also still need to code up the gui widgets and their associated events.

It still requires several months of work to be complete, but it could be fairly usable in less than a week or two.

I plan to add more complex 3ds model functionality over time.

I also already have support for dual analog game pads (and joysticks), and some basic sound music output already done.

I wrote all of the code (except for a couple small pieces that were in the public domain), so there are no problems with licences and copyrights.

The entire engine is architected to be very testable.

In addition to all of this I have the network portion of things covered too. I also have a custom written ftp server and client. And a custom written smtp server and client. Though, both of these network tools could use a couple extra weeks of work each.

Thanks,
Brad

Thanks for the offer, but I am currently unable to pay anyone. If you would still like to help, you can contact me. This was more of a project for fun, not for pay, or what not. But still, if anyone would like to help, please do reply.

I have already thought of that, that's why I am going to write a nice, LONG disclaimer. And thanks for the warning.

Or you could try and ask them directly if they would mind a "fan" project based on thier product. They might welcome it, or they might say no, or they might even not reply, but atleast its worth a shot I think. It wouldn't be nice to get a cease and desist order after spending time and hard work in a project anyways.

Unfortunately it won't matter how long the disclaimer is because that won't make any difference. FFVII is copyright of Square Enix and doing a remake is a breach of copyright. Unless you have permission from Square Enix your not allowed to use their IP. If you get their permission then feel free to come back and repost the project. If you would like to discuss the joy that is copyright law please feel free to PM me.
