Alright, get ready for this because I'm about to BLOW YOUR FUNKY MINDS. I have a dreamcast with a dialup adapterm hoorah, only problem is, I dont have dialup connection. This has lead me to an interesting problem as far as testing homebrew netcode goes. So, my brilliant (see: retarded) idea is to hook my dreamcast up to a cheapass dialup modem tossed into one of my mini-ITX machines. The problem is I have no idea where to go from here. Let me show you what I've got in a diagram: Image hosted by Photobucket.com Now, what I need is something on the computer that can take the signal from the wireless adapter and send it over the phone cord to the dreamcast. I remember a program like this existing for people to improve speed over their Dreamcast connections, but I'll be damned if I can find it. Any ideas?

Well, even if there's a dialup connection involved, this is really just a network. Use the PC as a gateway and set a DHCP server on it. Of course, this might be configuration hell, but that's not my problem [grin]

.. and set up an NAT on your computer too. I've done that once when i was to cheap to buy a router.

manually write an interface or something l33t like that. You would need to know some AT commands and such, also how to use com ports. Nothing hard. Although if windows can do it default even better. But less cool.

Modems really like to find a dial-tone. You might be able to hack it by making one ATD and the other ATA without a phone number.

You need to establish a ppp connection from the DreamCast to the PC, then the PC can use Internet Connection Sharing (if you have XP) or a third-party NAT tool (if you don't). Ohh, but the DreamCast is really going to want to be on the Internet, not NAT'd, so you'll need to configure it as the default target.

Getting the ppp to work is the hard part.

The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara
