Hi, I would like to profile my software, can anyone recommend a good profiling tool, preferably one that works with Eclipse and Java 1.4.2-08 or 1.5? I've found references to several through Google but would prefer to try something recommended, and therefore safer and at least half good, than believe all of the download-me blurb. Thanks for any help.

Do a search here at gamedev for code profilers for java -- that was a thread about 4 weeks ago. Several suggestions were posted.

Have you tried simply passing -Xprof to the VM? It usually supplies enough profiling info to give you an idea what to optimize.

Give HPJMeter a try. It analyzes the output created from using the -Xprof option.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll try the search first and see if there were any good ideas, and if that fails I'll look at the -Xprof option.
