Name: Steven Miles Skills offered: Programming, C++, DirectX What i'm looking for: Looking for a hobbyist project, not expecting payment. looking to gain experience from the project. Most of all it should be fun. Previous experience: An experienced professional programmer in various languages but no games programming experience yet, that’s why I’m looking for a project. Currently studying with GameInstitute, a brilliant experience, well worth the money. Currently enrolled on Graphics Programming with DirectX 9 - Module I. My certificates so far C++ Programming for Game Developers - Module I C++ Programming for Game Developers - Module II A Breif(?) Bio: Self taught Plus 3 Basic on the Sinclair Spectrum Plus 3 (the one with disk drive!) at the age of 10(ish). At 12 Moved on to AMOS on the Amiga, also looked at C++ for the first time. At 15 I started messing around with a new programming language called Visual Basic(1.0) with Windows 3.11 and took a C programming course at my local college. After leaving school I went to college and studied Maths, Physics and Computer Science where I was forced to learn Pascal. Discovered ASM inlining through Turbo Pascal and started doing some low level DOS graphics in VGA mode. Achieved things like fire, spinning wireframe cubes, and thus spinning cubes on fire :). Went to uni did some VB6, C++, Java, AI. Got a job writing server applications using ASP/VB6/SQL Server. Taught myself C#, ASP.NET and got my MCP in C# web applications. Changed jobs did some VB.NET for while. Changed jobs again doing some C# and a tiny bit of C++ again and started learning game programming with GameInstitute. Nice post, I'm sure you'll get yourself some attention with that. [smile]

A few projects of potential interest:
- Sector 13 - you may not be exactly what they're after, but they're definately worth checking out if you're interested.
- Hopeful call for help - these guys have great art assets and what sounds like a fairly solid design, and I think may still be looking for a programmer. If you think you could handle writing (or adapting) an engine on your own they'd be worth contacting.
- Goldeneye Source - I had to close the thread, but this is a great mod project you might be interested in.

Anyways, just a few possible suggestions, I'm sure you'll be approached by plenty of other people with interesting projects you can consider. Good luck with it, hope you find something suitable.

Might have a use for you in the database library of the project I'm working on.

Could be a gentle introduction from the sql interfaces you're used to.

Drop me a line at enquiries@winterdyne.co.uk.

Winterdyne Solutions Ltd is recruiting - this thread for details!

Hi Steven,
I'm the project manager for Sector 13, the first project recommended to you by Kazgoroth. I hope you'll check us out, as it sounds like you are studying the fields we are looking for the most.

I know you're looking for a hobbyist project, and we are very serious with an upcoming retail release date, but I hope that won't stop you from checking us out. Please drop me an email or PM if you'd like to talk more.

Thanks!

Not to float my own boat or anything, but Darwinbots could use a good programmer with a wide range of experience.

I guarentee it'd be totally different from what anyone else is doing, and that you'd have a great deal of latitude (since the entire project is something of an autonomous collective) in deciding what you want to work on. I mean, the program is already "done"! Everything else we've been doing for the last year or so has just been icing on the cake.

Darwinbots is very much centered in physics/general simulation and much less in GUI and graphics/sound, which is usually the reverse of other games.

Currently I'm starting a port over from VB to C++, so that's the most immediate project.

Anyway, the invitation is there.

Hello Steven.
If you are interested in working on a non-profit project on the Half-Life 2 engine, then I would reccommend having a look at Ragtag Revolution. We are a small modification that attempts to recreate the feel of the dark graphics novels such as Sin City and XIII.

We are fairly early in development, and are still working on our website, but we already have a fully functioning "texture test" that has many of our textures ingame with normal and specular mapping.

I myself do much of the coding at the moment, but my limited knowledge of DirectX and engine architecture is holding me back. Tasks for a coder would include creating entities (of which there are helpful tutorials), creating shaders and customizing the user interface.

If you are at all interested, please contact me on django@white-epsilon.com, PM me or reply to this thread.

Thanks,
Django Merope-Synge.

Hello, sir.

Thanks for posting and offering your skills on these forums!

I'd like to introduce myself; I'm the Director of an in-development indie 3D PC RPG (single-player and multiplayer modes), "Oceanus."
We're currently using the Irrlicht engine which supports a huge range of popular and new graphical features, while also appealing to those interested in power and simplicity of use. Plus, in your benefit, it's major power comes from C++, its primary language (though it also has C#).

If you're interested in working with my team and I, drop me a line on these forums (via a PM), send me an e-mail (neochikara at hotmail dot com), or post a reply here, if you can. If you were to join the team, you'd probably get set right on working with the Design Team and helping construct the World Editor with our Lead Programmer. Jobs and schedules are, of course, perfectly workable and flexible for everyone.

Anyway, if you're interested, please let me know. Oceanus' temporary site (just forums) can be viewed here: http://oceanus.vespersoft.net/phpBB2/index.php. (Sorry for no clickable link--I could've sworn these forums used the usual code.)

Thanks again.

This is amazing guys. Thanks for the response! I'm getting PMs as well as posts on this thread. Thanks for welcoming me to the community! Just to let you all know I haven't yet accepted a position on a project yet, as I’m still going through all your offers! If I haven't already contacted you, I will. If I can remember who I’ve already spoken to that is. hehe.

Thanks.
Steve.

ReVeN Games is looking for a new lead programmer for our Pirates MMO FPS (Massive-Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter) codenamed "Dark Waters". The programmer should have sufficient knowledge of C++, game engines, network coding, and object-oriented programming to lead a team of programmers through the creation of our product. Some previous related experience and committment to the project are both needed for this position. Please email me at justinp@revengames.com or visit our website at www.revengames.com for more information.

Note that this is NOT a paid position, though dedicated workers to the project may very well be compensated with royalties should royalties present themselves in the future.
