i plan on building a new pc within the next couple months and i haven't decided on which geforce model to go with. i'm looking for the best price/performance ratio so i think i'd want something in the 6600-6800 range. any suggestions on which card to get? also, would it be a good idea to go with a good nforce-sli mobo for a possible upgrade later, or would i be better off replacing the card with a new one later? edit: anyone got a link to benchmarks comparing all of the 6600/6800 models? 6600GT or 6800GT. Just [google].

Do you plan on spending $150-$250 again for a video card in the next year? If so, you will probably get better performance by lumping those two purchases together and getting something like a 7800 GTX, or even something from ATI within the same price range.

For AGP models:

For PCI:

As always, crosscheck these results with other websites.

I've used a 6800GT, a 7800GTX, and an ATI X850 pretty extensively. I'd HIGHLY recommend the 7800GT(X) if you can afford one, but the 6800 series is also fantastic. Definitely stick with at least a 6800 if you want to play next-gen games optimally. :-D

Edit: ...I don't think SLI is really worth it though.

sli doesn't look worth it at all unless you want more power than a single 7800 has to offer. i was hoping i could get by with a 6600gt(or 2), but i think you're right about the 6800(gt) or better. gonna hafta find some more benchmarks and see if i wanna go for a 7800.

Yup. Really, there's no reason you would want more power than a single 7800 has to offer. On the other hand though, there's no harm in getting an SLI board and keeping the option open if you can afford it.
