So... How much does it cost for the signup? How much does it cost every month after that? Of those who have GDNet+ are you happy with it?

If you look up and to the right in your browser, there is a "members" column. Under there is something called "GDNet+" signups... you can go there.

I want to hear from those that already have it, their oppinion.
I also want to know: Any strings attached?

Strings? No, there are no strings attached.

Ok, so I've had GDNet+ for over 13 months right now. I suppose I can answer your question pretty well.

  • You get a developer journal, basically a blog. You can obviously find free blog sites everywhere in the world, but this is GameDev journal, not TypicalEmoKidsRantingSite blog
  • You get some webspace. You can obvious find free web space sites everywhere, but a good majority of them don't allow things such as image hotlinking. The idea is to keep your gamedev related files on the gamedev site, and post things in the forums or have articles and developer sites on your space, under GameDev domain, not SomeRandomWebSpaceWithAdsAndPopups host
  • You get a nifty icon on your posts, and a golden GDNet+ tag
  • You get a showcase, to demonstrate your projects to the game development community
  • You get a bunch of other benefits such as special discounts. Most people don't really use this I suppose
  • You get to support GameDev.net

Personally, the only reason I'm GDNet+ is the last item in that list. Although I do take extensive use of my journal as well.

I hope you like my creative names for random hosting websites :D

I did it to support the site. And the features (blog, webspace, avatar, etc…) are pretty good. I'm very happy with it.

I beg to differ:

#attach <string>using namespace std;

GDNet+ is pretty simple. I'm not sure where your confusion comes from - read GDNet+ Signups and you can see all the features you get and click here to see how much it costs.

As far as personal opinion, I consider it a donation with perquisites. For every book I've bought since GDNet+ came out, Amazon.com less expensive than the sites with discounts, I have separate webspace, and the journal is nothing but a blog I could live without. The showcase is really the best feature IMO, and I haven't made any games really worth putting there (but I put the bootable tic-tac-toe up anyways).

Sorry for not replying, had to do something for about an hour. Thanks for your help and I would gladly support this site as soon as I can get enogh extra cash. Just curious about any credit card thieves or anoying e-mail offers and such. Guess there isn't any. Thanks again for your help, I will probaly join in a few months.

P.S. I found the perfect avatar for my user.

Thanks yet again and god be with you all.

I mostly consider my GDNet+ membership a donation with benefits. I dont make much use of my developer journal (but I do on occasion) and thus far I havent needed the showcase but I was pleased enough with it that I've had it for one year and in August I continued it for another year.

The features are cool although I can't say I really use them much, there just isn't enough time. But I do it to support this awesome site as I've visited it at least once a day for over five years now :)

I had GDNet+ for a short while and I loved it. I had to take a break from GameDev for a while so I cancelled my membership. I'm not in too great of a financial situation right now (both my wife and I are working part time so we can go to school full time, but it's not easy). I'm hoping to get at least a years membership for christmas this year ;)

I'm exactly the same. I have 2 folders in my webspace, JournalStruff and ThreadStuff. Things I link to in threads are stored in ThreadStuff, and things linked to in my journal are in JournalStuff. I used to use my webspace for hotlinking images to a Maple Story website, but I don't play Maple any more, so I don't do that any more.
If you pay yearly then you don't need to pay any attention to how much it costs (Well, you do, but only once a year :P)

I'm rarely in the tech forums anymore and I have too little time to seriously consider a game related project right now but I kept and plan on keeping my gdnet+ to support the site. I've only used the webspace for posting images in the forums.
