Is it possible for me to only download and use the shared_ptr in the boost library? I want to use shared pointers in my project, but I'd rather not upload the boost library in its entirety into my CVS server.

boost::shared_ptr is implemented in one file: boost::shared_ptr.hpp, although this file requires a few other files. Here's what it #includes in my version (1.32) (1.33 is the current stable version).

include <boost/config.hpp>   // for broken compiler workarounds#if defined(BOOST_NO_MEMBER_TEMPLATES) && !defined(BOOST_MSVC6_MEMBER_TEMPLATES)#include <boost/detail/shared_ptr_nmt.hpp>#else#include <boost/assert.hpp>#include <boost/checked_delete.hpp>#include <boost/throw_exception.hpp>#include <boost/detail/shared_count.hpp>#include <boost/detail/workaround.hpp>#include <memory>               // for std::auto_ptr#include <algorithm>            // for std::swap#include <functional>           // for std::less#include <typeinfo>             // for std::bad_cast#include <iosfwd>               // for std::basic_ostream

I'm not sure about just downloading shared_ptr, since it requires other headers. But you could download it all and use only the shared_ptr portion of it. In its entirety, the boost 1.33 library is around 10 megabytes when compressed.

is this multiplatform?

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I'm just wondering if there are any instructions for compiling bcp?
