I'm looking for a database that has a C++ interface and is light, fairly stable, and embeddable (meaning light, and doesn't have to be set up as a server, per se). I've looked around, but I thought I would see what people in the forum say. Also, I'm going to create an application over top of it that models some kind of 3D system, and possibly raster too -- project just started. If it had some kind of Lisp interface, for that matter that would be awesome. L- Sorry if this is pretty NEWB, seems like a google question, but google is not very specific in this area.

google for sqlite, it could be useful for you. afaik it's a library, wich allows you to work with a database, wich is just a file. and it uses c-functions with sql statements.

or so i remember.

SQLite is the solution. Unless you have a very specific, very abnormal need you didn't mention, it is the most robust, well tested, and best supported embedded database there is (about the only other option I would give you is using the Microsoft Jet driver [Access], and there isn't a guarentee every user will have it).

To clarify, by default it exists as a very small (~100KB) DLL with a simple C interface (there are extra functions if you want to do advanced things like manually step through queries, which is useful if you need to stream out very large result sets and don't want to use a lot of ram). It is open source under a free licence (i.e. not GPL), and with some messing you can fully integrate it into your program, though I would recommend just using the DLL, to avoid headache.

Alright that's what I'm talking about.

Thanks guys,
