Hi I have an asus k8n nforce 3 motherboard. 2 * 512 mb pc3200 ram. They arnt identical, there cas is 2.5/3 which is bad. They underclock to 333 mhz for some reason. 1.8ghz athlon 64 2800+ ati x800xt oem i put my fsb from 200 -> 245 which took my ram from 333 -> 406 (should be 400 anyway, not a big increase) my bus from 800 -> 980 (what exactly is this bus? is it on the mobo?) and my processor from 1.8 -> 2.08 (i put my multiplier to 8.5 instead of 9, i reckon i can put it to 9x and get 2.2 ghz without any problems but i havent yet) in futuremark is used to get 4200. now i get 5960. Thats quite an insane increase. my processor goes at about 50 C max my mobo about 30 C max. Everything works fine, everything is stable. However when i put my fsb to 250 it wont boot, on restart it says overclock failed. I think the bios is just being safe. I have the latest bios. Can anyone comment on my situation?

Just leave it at 245, you're not going to notice an extra 5MHz. Odds are it's the motherboard components that are crapping out, if it was memory or the CPU you'd be able to boot at 250 and the system would freeze or spontaneously reboot.

the thing is the fsb is like 490 (is the fsb doubled?) and the ram is 406, its such a pain. The ram could go to about 420-440 but the fsb is buggering me.

Any tools which tell me what the fsb is? because i dont trust my bios.

You don't have a FSB on Athlon 64 systems. You have a HyperTransport bus instead, which has a stock speed of 800 or 1000 mhz (depending on platform. Socket 754 is 800mhz only, 939 is 1ghz).

So no, the FSB isn't doubled, it's just not a fsb. :)

True. What your are doing is overclocking the HT. You seem not to understand what you are doing and you lack knowledge about RAM dividers (this is why your RAM "underclocked" to 166Mhz, or DDR333). This and overclocking isn't a good combination. Do some research.

right ok, i understand a bit better now.

But i am not o/c the ht. I am o/c the external clock (i thought this was the fsb speed aswell, oops). The ht isnt listed in the bios.

And as for research, what do you think i am doing? i cant exactly learn everything about ram in a few weeks. Its confusing stuff, i have a detailed slide show on ram. I come here because people can help me.

My bios doesnt have any options for ram dividers.

vNistelrooy, you were of no help. Confirming the previous guys statement then telling me i dont know what i am doing isnt getting anyone anywhere. If i knew what i was doing would i be here asking these questions?
