How do you picture amazons database being setup for product listings with various attributes depending on the item? Many many different tables? Meta data? And how does the database design compare with ehow the software OO code looks like. SearchStruct.query = "alfdj"; SearchStruct.limit = 5; // 5 results AmazonMasterEngine->Search( SearchStruct ); where maybe each department is put into a seperate container? ClothingEngine->Search(); Computers->Search(); ty ^sf

I'm told it's a multi-layer caching system (about 7 layers) built primarily on Linux and written in C++. The database clusters are the back-end and your browser is at the front.

The database code is probably quite typical - ODBC/SQL queries to an RDB. Not sure which database they use though.
The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara

thx for the feedback.
So you don't think they would be using some kind of metadata or loose formed db?
