Team name: Data Catalyst of XenoIncorporations Group Project name: Oblivion Chronicles Brief description: Well, I have had numerous of projects but unfortunately all of them where sold, as lack of time increased. However, during long winter days I started writing a fantasy story for a RPG game, one year has gone and I am done with the story. The story now needs to involve in a game, hence I am looking for a very enthusiastic team. Target aim: Well, the game will have a wonderful story, and it is in my best interest to make the game Shareware, however, if the game becomes very popular during its development, if the team wishes for it, we could make the game commercial. Compensation: Well the game is thought to be shareware, but as I said earlier if the game, during its stage of development becomes popular, its could very well become commercial if the team wishes for it, than a percentage of the revenue of the total income will be payed to everyone in the team, depending on how much effort he or she has made. Technology: Unreal Engine 3 [http://www.unrealtechnology.com/flash/technology/ue30.shtml ] I have some people looking for a version it, they have not succeeded yet, but soon to come they will. 3D Studio Max for CG and Models. MAYA for CG and Models. Both of these could be used, tough I would rather see the models made in 3Dstudio Max and the animations made in MAYA. Programming is allowed to be made in what so ever software/compiler the programmer feels the most comfortable with. For sound editing, musicians may use any high quality equipment they want, however final editing will be done by a professional in a Sony Software editor. Talent needed: Modellers: Experience in rendering, modelling, high polygon count sculpturing, texture applying. Has worked in 3D Studio Max or MAYA (equivalent, if stated will be accepted). You are willing work after art concept and be done with a deadline of 20-25 days. I am looking for a modelling division supervisor (you will need to be familiar with 3Dstudio Max or MAYA, be able to animate, apply textures, add effects) 4 Character modellers (experience of 3D Studio Max or MAYA and animating) 3 Level Editors (You are able to work after sketches, and have a deadline of 15 days) 3 CG modellers ( you are able to make high polygon count models, apply skins and animate in high FPS ) Programmers: Experience in VB, C++/C+, OpenGL, DirectX Java. 3 Software programmers (you have experience of game programming) 1 Program Division supervisor (you have more then 3 years of experience, you are able to program in C++, C+, Virtual Basic, OpenGL Java and able to co-ordinate work) 3 Graphics Programmers: You are experienced in OpenGl, DirectX, C++/C+. Have 2 years of experience. Art division: 4 Concept artist, you are very skilled at drawing or coming up with ideas. 2 Character Designers, you are interested in clothing, very good at drawing characters, can work after descriptions. 3 World Designers, you are able to draw fantasy style scenarios, and if needed can get inspiration from images, you are also good at drawing symmetrically, and respecting the scales wanted. You do realise you have to license that engine from Epic, and that it isn't cheap?

Well, yes you are right.
I did not know that the official Unreal Engine was that expensive.
The Doom3 engine is freesource now, is it not?
Going to inspect this question, il come back with an answer.
Any suggestions would help.

QuakeIII isnt even opensource yet, let alone doom3.

My suggestion is that you research your stuff as thoroughly as possible before you post something like this here. Obviously, you're not going to know everything your first go around, but you don't want to look bad, either.

No. id has released the SDK for Doom 3, which is just a subset of the code for the game alone. It does not include the actual engine, i.e. renderer, sound core, etc.

If you want free 3D graphics middleware, I suggest checking out Ogre. If you are willing to pay $100, then Torque is another option.

Actually, the full QuakeIII source has been released under the GPL. See this page. [http://www.idsoftware.com/]

This means you can use it if you like, as long as you abide by the licencing terms of the GPL (i.e. you'll need to opensource your game (there's nothing that precludes an OS game from going commercial btw, it just isn't something that commonly happens)). It is a fairly complex engine however, and you won't really get any support; you (and your programming team) would have to figure it out yourself.

As already mentioned, you could also consider Torque if you're looking for a cheaper engine you could use. You could also possibly look into the C4 Engine.

In terms of free engines, you could possibly consider OGRE or Irrlicht, although both are really graphics engines and would need a lot of additional code (physics, etc.) added to make a game.

Hope that helps you out somewhat. [smile]

Well I almost was certain that ID had made it opensource.
And I oubviosly was right.
Regarding the fact that i tought UE3 was free if from another source, which obviosly was not right.
I dont want anyone to think I am a newbie, Ive been in the branch for 9 years know.
I think I will consider trying with ID´s engine or buy Torque, money is realy not an issue regarding this project.
