Original Post
Hey, I was wornding if there are any real good alternatives to microsoft powerpoint for make real good Slideshows?
OpenOffice slideshow. Unless you believe MS PowerPoint isn't good enough, in which case OpenOffice slideshow won't cut it either.
I use HTML to make my slide shows. I had a PHP script for a while (it's long gone, now), that would parse a text file with a simple markup system. The text file was the entire slide show. I used it for one slide show on genetic algorithms.
it's not that i think it is not good enough, it just that i don't want to buy works inorder to get it, all i want is powerpoint. sorry did not explian myself better at first.
i have tried it and really don't like it as much as powerpoint.
You can create presentations in LaTeX. Won't have any of those fancy (and quite frankly pointless) transitions and sounds effects though but it sure does give you added geek cred. Once you've tried LaTeX you'll never want to go back to shoddy programs like MS Office and OpenOffice etc. Real men use LaTeX, it's a fact*.

I used to be a big proponent of OpenOffice, but that was when I just used Writer. It's spreadsheet program isn't nearly as good as Excel. I've written Excel sheets for a Physics lab that work fine, but when I try to load them in Calc, the equations are carried out with noticibly less precision (for some of these I needed calculations within .0005, though) and the graphs didn't turn out right. I still haven't figured out how to use arbitrary columns as x and y values on a single graph.
Good thing I got Office as a free download from my school's Software Select system. (I'm just going to pay the $6.00 to get a CD, though, because some other features weren't included in the network install.)
