Have you ever explored the mysterious places like the tunnels that run underneath campuses. And what on earth are steam tunnels? My brother recently explored one. Please explain.

steam tunnels are a means of providing heat to all the buildings on campus from a central steam generator. Look around in the buildings, you should see radiators. It's fairly old. Also, I'm pretty confident the university doesn't want you down there.

Is it just me or does exploring a steam tunnel sound stupid?

Nah, most schools no longer are heated by boiler rooms.

The University of Michigan Ann Arbor has enough tunnels to walk from one end of centeral campus to the other side and most of south campus. There was a proposel to open them up and update them to allow students to walk throughout the campus without going outside, but because the tunnels were basically utility tunnels, it would cost too much to update them to building code.

How big are these tunnels, usually? They're actually big enough to walk through, or are they more like drainage tunnels (maybe a foot in diameter)?
I like the DARK layout!

Those tunnels always have open doors, and I've always wanted to jump down them and, you know, frolick.

Then I realize they are kinda hot.
