How many "blocks" is the snake starting with??

Exactly enough to make the game fun.

Seriously though, just try out a few and decide which you think is the most 'fun'. Or maybe let the user decide the number of segments and give more points if they start with more blocks. Ie, user picks 6 blocks and scores six times the amount than a person who starts with one block. You're the designer, the choice is yours.

Alternatively play someone elses version and use that number.

At least 2, otherwise it wouldn't look like a snake, but a pong ball.
I don't think starting amount makes a big different but the rate of growth can. If it grows 5 every time it eats something rather than 3 then after 6 times it is almost double in size.

You could do anything you want, as long as you think it is really fun to play [smile]

(x + 5n) / (x + 3n) \approx 2

with the approximation getting better for larger n. Or in other words, if the snake starts at 2, and grows by five each time it eats, it will be 32 in size after six meals, versus 20 for growing by three. Which isn't really a good approximation to twice as big, but you can fix that with more meals.

Five would be to big, Make it grow by three or two. Or better yet, make it grow less the quicker you get to the food: Every three seconds you grow another when you eat the food, starting at two blocks per food bite. And make the snake start with four blocks and a head block.

I always just let it grow by one.

Perhaps I'm really the more one with the large attention span and not the mobile phone dude, though.
