Hi, my engine currently works very nice, it does specular normal mapping, cubic environment mapping, as well as static radiosity light maps. currently, i have only textures which are imported from other games or downloaded from the internet. but i want to create my own textures, but here is the problem: i have no artistic skills that are neccessary for creating realistic looking texture maps. im interested in how you create your textures and whether it is possible to use photographs of surfaces for texture maps, but i think that is not possible since the photograph will contain illumination information which cannot used in an engine. thanks for any replys Gammastrahler

as long as the surface is illuminated in a constant mannor with white light I don't see the problem. if the surface is bumpy then it might be hard because of the shadowing, but without shadowing, surfaces don't look bumpy anyway. for flat stuff for sure it'll work.

Héhé ^^

"Programmer Art" they call that ^^
Well, find a friend who's interested in helping you and better than you with computer art ... or try to learn by yourself.

But just for textures, you have a lot of free resources on the web. One of my favorite website :

http://lemog.free.fr

Enter, it's a the end of the page (a lot of sections with tileable 512² textures)

For 3D models, there are resources, but I never found one with enough good models (either too big for real-time, or really bad looking, etc.)
