Hello @ll, I am new in here and this is my first question. Hope it is placed right here. My problem is concerning the DirectX Frameworks. I am reading a book about DirectX, Inside Direct 3D. It is from the year 2000, and i dont have the according Direct X SDK from that time. I am stuck with the first example roadrage. It uses the d3dapp.cpp and d3dapp.h, and else from an old framework. Everytime i try to compile it, the debug report shows deklaration errors. I tried to include the missing headers, but it wont work that way. Meanwhile MS changed the framework somehow. So far I know. How can I run the examples from the book with my VS.NET 2003? Do I just have to obtain the Direct X SDK from 2003 or so, install it in a separate folder and configure VS.net to use these paths?? (I have installed the newest already October 2005). I know, I could try to use the new framework, but I am doing a c++ course for my studies. So I would like to program the Direct X API in C++. And I do not know enough about C# and VS.C in order to use it properly. Thank you for any help.

Hi mate,

I have this book as well and if i remember correctly the RoadRage game is written using DirectX7. As you are probably aware 2 large version changes have been made since that SDK so now DX7 is pretty much obselete for new developements.

I havn't tried to get this work but i'm pretty sure that the CD that came with the book had the DirectX7 SDK on it. If this is not the case then you can try your best to find it on google. I couldn't see any useful results. Next is to get it working with .NET 2003. Now i assume you are familiar with how to link DirectX 9 with .NET 2003. If not then there are many topics on this issue, so if you use the Forum Search you should turn something up.

I hope that helps and let me know if you manage to get it working.

Take care,

Thany you, ace!!
Now I know it uses the Direct X7 SDK, thought it was a 9er release!!
I try to download the 7er SDK right now, but I have another question.
What do you mean by getting it to workj with Direct X9. Of course I know how
to configure the paths, and certainly include the libs, if you meant that.
But would it still work then? I guess not. Or is there any backdoor, because of COM? I know there is, but the files are completely missing, like d3dapp.cpp. At least I would have to rewrite a certain part of the code. Am I right??
