Hi I want to know more about simulating breakable materials (e.g. glass, wood and rock ) in a 3D impulse based physics engine. Are there any good articles on this subject? Are there any formulas for the amount the of force, or how strong an impulse needs to be, to break a wooden board or a glass window?

Look into Young ( spelling ?? ) module , a coefficient depicting how much a material resists to sliding forces , there are 3 parameters that are used to
measure resistance of an object, resistence to friction, resistence to compression and resistence to sliding.
Google for : science of material and applications .

Youngs Modulus. You will find a lot on it if you search for A-Level Physics, as its part of the syllabus over here, besides, A-Level stuff is easier to read than scientific journals for the most part.

Thanks. Hopefully this will get me started =)
