Usually unresolved externals means that the compiler is complaining about structures, classes, methods that you are trying to access but it cannot find the reference for them. You also usually solve this problem by including the correct libraries and appropriate headers.

In visual studio you could easily solve all these problems. Just add this in your main cpp.

//including the correct headers.#include <d3d9.h>#include <d3dx9.h>#include <d3dx9math.h>//including the correct libraries.#pragma comment(lib, "d3dx9.lib")#pragma comment(lib, "d3d9.lib")#pragma comment(lib, "d3dx.lib")#pragma comment(lib, "DxErr9.lib")#pragma comment(lib, "dxguid.lib")#pragma comment(lib, "dinput8.lib")

I hope this helps.
Take care.
