Hello. I’m spinning a barrel at high speed and need to make the outside of the barrel look like it’s got motion blur. By motion blur I don’t mean the blur behind the object as it moves, but rather blur on the external texture as it spins. Is there a technique to do this, or do I need change the texture at a certain speed to a “blurred” image? Thanks

Changing to a "blurred" image is probably your best option, by far, because you can prerender the blur, and prerendering generally is the best you can do. Also note that the classic motion blur technique (simply storing old frames and blending them with decreasing alpha values for each new frame) will work, but it's never a perfect method, and usually looks plain bad if you aren't planning on getting an obscenely high FPS.

If you do use a "blurred" image, consider smoothly interpolating between your base texture and the blurred one as the speed increases, or even using an animation (an animation will obviously take up more memory, but cause no meaningful difference in performance).
