So post your screenshots for the "One Week One Button 2" contest here. I'll start it off with this old screenshot (1 day old is a lot in a 1-eweek contest!) Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Is this yours, or by the GD member Shilbert?

I only found out about the contest yesterday (tuesday) night, and so I spent most part of today on artwork. Tommorow I'll get started on the code.
For now heres a mockup shot with said artwork:

Framerate without video capture (had to lower the game priority) is ~1850. The offsets are not quite right, as this is really just a tech demo using the components I've built to see what it looked like. I still need to write classes to properly handle the terrain scrolling/wheel movement/rover bobbing.

Got my dude doing all his moves, now to add game :)

FPS is deceptive since I use a 433Mhz computer with Windows 98SE (and an ancient graphics card) to develop on.

Horray for only one class on Thursdays [cool]

I also have a yellow circle now...

I just finished up a HUGE paper for school, and I'm busy most of tomorrow, but I should have most of Friday and probably all of Saturday to work on it. Hopefully I can get it done. I can pretty much guarantee the art will suck and there will be no sounds.

For only a few days work these are looking very impressive. I wish I'd done something like this for 4E4 - if I can write a game in a week then in 5 weeks I could write a great game!
Michalson I like the buggy.

Hey guys,

I just decided to put some screenies here for you, because all others do, too.

This is my progress with the title screen:

And here's my baby in action:

As I already mentioned, I am nearly finished.
I'm currently working on the highscore screen and then the only thing to add is sound.

Best regards,

Dirk

Little update:

just finished the graphics for highscore screen. Not very beautyful, but it fits my needs :-)

by the way, I sampled all the screenies down to half size with compression, so don't wonder about artifacts in the screenshots.

Certainly a nice idea - is it any fun? I was never a fan of the 'hit the button as fast as you can' genre but there have been quite a few games that rely on it.

I don't like the stupid tapping on one button, too, but this was fitting my needs for my game-idea.
To make the game more fun I implemented endurance of the baby, so you don't just have to push the button as fast as you can, but need to take a look at the endurance. If it goes down you have to slow down tapping to not let the baby exhaust (resulting in making a break until it refreshes endurance).
So you always have to take a look at several things in the game. Speed, endurance and time is of importance to get highscore. And if you are nearly out of time you have to reach the next watch to gain some seconds.
I played it very often (of course) while implementing the dependance between speed, endurance and time. I also gave the several items different score and put them randomly on the range, so even if you find out the best way to get the maximum distance in time, you have a random factor to gain points. This all together makes the fun of the game and I don't really know what to do further with only one available button for gameplay :-).
Apropos fun, I will implement sounds I recorded yesterday. They come from my 11 months old son Kenny (who inspired me :-) and are really funny to listen to. I took them while he was blablabla'ing ^^

Greetings

EDIT:
Here is a little sample of what I am talking about:

Click to download the "demo." You can only explore one level, and the actual objective isn't implimented yet. Use the space bar to move (you'll figure it out).

Feedback welcome. (I'd be particularly appreciative if you tell me I left anything out and it doesn't work, or that it's the most brilliant thing you've ever seen in your life.)

On a side note, if I actually finish the game and have time, I will make a better car model.

EDIT: By the way, ignore the warnings the consol gives you, please. I accidentally made my models try to load textures they don't need, and I didn't package them for the demo.
