I thought up a cool idea the other day and would like to know if something like this is possible/has already happened. Here goes: The internet has webcams. Webcams are connected to a computer running software that uploads a picture to a webserver every N seconds. Java is what you'll probably use to display the images off of the webserver in an applet. The idea that I came up with was to take a screengrab of your monitor instead of snapping a picture from a webcam. This screengrab is uploaded to a webserver and then displayed with a java applet on your site. My question regards the camera software itself. Does java have the capabilities to upload a picture to a server every N seconds? Has it been done before for regular webcam software? If so, links? J# is fair game also. -Thanks in advance everyone. Sorry about the wall of text :P

No idea how to do it with java.

J# uses the .NET library. What you can do is create a directshow node (small COM program) which acts as the capture part of the graph. You then go in there and manualy clip that on, and you can use the screen as a webcam, nifty.

Thanks for the idea. Any others?

I guess I'll try out something with Java's FtpClient. Not sure if it'll work or not, but It's worth a shot since I don't know any DirectX.
