I can't help but ask why you'd need to be anonymous on IRC. Why do you need to be anonymous on IRC?

why you need to fullfil your curiosity?

You have been warned, my guess is the mods got your IP and found it on the ban list of #gamedev or something of the sorts..

I'd like to confirm that you aren't a stalker or online predator before I tell you how to hide your identity.

I'll tell you if you offer an explanation for why you need to conceal your identity.

i need to conceal my ip because i argue with someone that faking ip's is possible.I told him the only way to do this is via a proxy because whatever you do the ip will go out of your ISP and not your computer so u cant manipulate it.

i even showed him an online article but he still thinks that people change their ip's/fake them. i need to show him how this is done in practice

Fine. Just do file->options and select "Firewall" under "Connect."

I'm still not entirely convinced of your motives, though.

EDIT: And you're awfully impatient.

You can forge a packet header, so it says that it came from someone other then you. The only problem is that the return pwackets don't come back to you...

Its mainly used for dos/ddos attacks, where you either use it for anonymity or more damage. (dos one system pointing to a second, and dos the second, pointing to the first. Ping packets go back to sender, and you should be able to work out the deatails).

Yes, the ip that goes out is one of the ones your isp owns (and thats the only one you'll get incoming data from), so in order to actually use it as an anonymous session, you need a proxy.

Most proxies are glined however. (there are tests for proxies, which picks up basically all of them before you enter, then kicks you out).

The test, is basically, if you can connect to the proxy like a proxy (ie. on any normal port, like 8080,6667,ect.) then so can the server. The server tries to connect to the proxy, and if it can't, then your not a proxy. (unless your on a list of proxies, found by someone else or a scanner).

Thats basically it.
You can connect via proxy, as long as its not on a proxy list and doesn't respond to scannings.

The easiestr way to do this would be to get a shell account and run your own relay from there that only opens for your ip.

Click here to patch the mozilla IDN exploit, or click Here then type in Network.enableidn and set its value to false. Restart the browser for the patches to work.

203.55.231.107, port 8080.

Be sure to set firewall support to both, and protocol to proxy.

But its on sorbs as an abusive account, so you may or may not be allowed in.

As open proxies are so commonly used by idiots loading multiple bots and then trying to flood a channel, you will find most irc networks do a port scan when you connect and k-line you if you are found to be using an open proxy.

Also most open proxies are not annonymous so if you are up to no good ...you will almost definately be found out.

Then there are bnc's. This is where you bounce off another location when connecting to irc and your dns becomes that of host you bounce off. An example of this would be user@nissan.skyline.owns.you.need.for-spe.de (notice how the end domain is for-spe.de where .de is the german country domain) ...I use this example cause i've seen it in the past [grin]. This type of domain masking is not really needed on afternet though as x3 automatically masks you with username.afternet.org if you register an account and identify.

All the best,
ViLiO
