Ug...So, I was sitting here doing nothing but listening to music and my screen turns light blue with some vertical lines going up and down (only after a second or two did the music stop). I restart, and things work normally until, a few minutes later, the screen goes black and the music stops. I hit the power button and hold it, but before it shuts down, the screen comes back and so does the music...everything is ok. What is this? Weird video issue? Do these things happen every once in a while, or does it mean the computer has had it?

there can be a lot of causes for something like this, but the chance of the entire computer going kaput is very slim.

a few possible scenarios:
-video card is overheating (check the fan, i've seen the fans die and kill cards before)
-power supply unstable (it could overheat, your AC line is having too much fluctuation, yada yada)
-video card busted

Yeah, I thought it could be those two things. Video card has no fan, though. And the PSU has performed well for almost a year (I built this system myself).

What makes me really think that it may be the video card is that the screen went black, but came back the when this happened the second time. ATI has some system put in place that restarts the GPU, and I've seen it work when HL2 crashed it.

Is there any chance that this could be a simple little glitch that won't occur again?

Also, if it makes any difference, the first time I reset it, I didn't cut the power, I just hit the reset button.

what ati card do you have? ati's are known for overheating even when they do have a fan or other proper cooling. try leaving the side of your case open and see if it happens again. i ended up having to put an 80mm fan on my card.
