When speakers turn themselves down is that bad? Right after they turn down, can i turn them right back up or should i just cut them off and let them "rest" I just bought some new speakers that have a maximum of 160 watts, my amp puts out 120 watts. I figured i could turn the amp to the max and have no problems. But when i turn the amp to the max the speakers turn themselves down after awhile. My question is, is this normal? and should i turn the speakers off or just cut the volume down a little bit and keep the music going?
I don't have to do nothing but live and die, everything else i choose to do- I don't know, but my dad says it alot

my speaker suck.

they turn off or on, any other adjusting the volume gives random increases and decreases in volume, regarless which way they are turned. at some volumes one speaker will not produce any sound.

sorry not to give a useful reply, but it really does suck... i needed to rant

*sigh*

We sure the speakers are at fault? Couldn't it be the amp?

How many ohms each are they, how many speakers are there, and is wattage on either rated at RMS or Max or Peak?

they are 8 ohms each, 2 speakers the wattage is maximum. The amp works good even though it is over 15 years old(lol). It just did't happen with these speakers, before i had a surround sound system and i was playing music at the max and they cut themselves down after awhile to.

i've had speakers turn themselves down but its either because i was putting too much power to them (volume is different than wattage, you cna have 20000 watt speakers and blow them with a 700 watt receiever/amp) or because your reciever is putting out 16 ohms when the speakers are 8. or it could simply just be your reciever dieing.

Avoid turning your amp all the way up - your speakers can take it but the amp might start to distort things, which isn't good for the speakers.
