What are the benefits to using STLport over the built-in STL for MinGW, Visual C++ 2005, or G++?

Depends, I'm not familar with any of those :) If their implementation of the STL is STLport then nothing. If their implementation is the C++ standard then one advantage is hash tables. Another is that it has slist which is a singly, rather than doubly, linked list. Another is ropes which are basically an alternative representation for strings with a few advantages over a contigeous array of characters.
Keys to success: Ability, ambition and opportunity.

Thanks for the reply Lil Buddy,

Is the speed of STLport comparable to Microsoft's implementation?

I've done some artificial tests on the speed of DinkumWare 4.05 vs. StlPort 5.0.

StlPort 5.0 is about 1-9 times faster than DinkumWare 4.05 for std::map, using int or std::string as keys.
StlPorts hash_map implementation is broken and will be from 1-5 times faster to 1500 times slower than DinkumWare.
