jpeg file format

I''m attempting to extract a jpeg image. I seem to have most of it worked out but I can''t work out how to get the bit depth. It''s not in jpeg_decompress_struct and I''m not sure about where to get the info from. Does jpeg only support one colour depth or something? Is anyone aware of some nice simple code for loading and displaying a jpeg? Many thanks Chris

This is kinda useless what my msg contains but newayz..

JPEG can be either 24bit color or pure luminance (8bit)
Pure Y or L (whichever..) JPEG''s are not all that common though, as GIF gives better quality for similar size, so you could proberbly assume it''s 24bit and be generally right
