Changes = slow?

I''ve noticed since the site redesign, that your server seems to be slower. At first I thought it was my end, and even rebooted our company''s network server because I was sure the damned thing had screwed up again.
It''s gotten to the point that I''ll actually open a topic in a new window, go back to the original window and browse topic headers while I''m waiting for the message thread to load completely (I''ll sometimes end up with 3 or 4 topics loading at one time which, I''m sure, doesn''t help the speed any)
So, has something happened to make it slower?
Micah
It''s not since the redesign, but since we moved to a new server a few days ago. Note that new != better. We had better hardware previously, but we could continue to keep the server at that location. Hopefully, we''ll be able to upgrade in the near future.
Heh, I was just going to create a post about how slow the website is now. I mean it now takes minutes to load one page, and I have a cable modem. Used to take 1 second :/
I''m also no longer able to access Gamedev from work since the move.
Out of curiosity, anyone know what I now get a "cerberus.zwave.net [216.139.199.180] reports: Destination protocol unreachable" error when doing a traceroute?

Yeah, things are slow. John (who handles our server) mentioned that our SQL Server will probably need two to three times as much RAM as it currently has. Considering that 90% of the site retrieves its data from the SQL Server, I''m sure you can imagine what''s causing the massive slowdown.
It''s being worked on though, so let''s hope there aren''t too many more problems.

Same here. I''m on cable modem at home using a proxy to distribute the connection. I''ve noticed a few slow loading posts, but nothing I''d call out of the ordinary (i.e. different load times for each thread.)
I''m also cannot access GameDev from any other computer than the routing one. It appears that the problem originates from the proxying. This is probably what is hapenning where you work. I''ve purged the proxy''s cache, but that hasn''t helped. If I do figure out to fix this, I''ll post here again.
A few people have reported not being able to reach the site at all. At first I thought this was due to slow DNS updates, but several of them have said it revolved into our current address. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.
Why is ''show topics of the last 2000 days'' the default option? It takes quite a lot time to load the page and then all I get is a server timed out error most of the time. After I change it to ''show topics of the last 10 days'' it works well, but each time I enter a forum I have to wait again for all the topics of the last 2000 days. I guess there are not much people wanting to read a topic from 1995.
YYYYYYYYYYYEESSSSSS!!!!
Finally fixed the problem with accessing GameDev here at my home.
If you''re getting a HTTP ERROR 425 try this:
1) Close down all browsers.
2) Find the DNS cache file which may be refered to as DNS log, DNS cache, DNS list, etc.
3) Delete it. (If your feeling queesy about deleting it, just rename it.)
Now try accessing GameDev.net. You shouldn''t have any problems. For those of you at work, you''ll have to ask your Net Admin to do this. (Ask him/her to "clear the DNS entry logs." If he/she is any good at their job, they should know what you mean. You might get asked why, just say "Previously accessible sites are not available here, but I can get them at home," or something along those lines.

Hmm, it''s supposed to default to 5 days (which I believe it does, since I''m accessing the forums from a computer I''ve never used before and that''s what I get). If there is a value stored in your cookie, that''s what it uses instead. Values are stored in your cookie every time you change the value in the combo box.
However, I''ll take a look at it and see if there''s something wrong with it.
