Need Routine

hey hey God, never thought I would actually be asking this... [smile] Well, since I gave up smoking, regular drug use and general unhealthy crap I'm getting into becoming really healthy. I'm gonna be 20 in 4 days i thought "well, i'm 20, i'm very old but still young in the grand scheme of things [wink]... i need to try and get myself to a good level of fitness". I'm not a terrible level of fitness and i'm on the lower margin of normal BMI- i.e. any less and I'd be under normal. I'm gonna join a gym soon. I kinda have a target in mind- i used to dabble around with break dancing and i'm getting really back into it but i've lost all my upper body strength [smile] and breaking dancing does require ALOT of upper body strength as well as being really fit. My mate and i wanna get back into it anyway, just to keep fit and to fight for our turf. Anyway, not that you needed to hear that but I was wondering what a good routine would be to do daily (without a gym at the mo, and also to supplement a gym when I actually join). What do you guys do? My mate whose joinging me is ex royal marine (quite a few years ago though so he's lost his peak) so I'm getting quite a few hints from him but we do kinda need a good regular routine just to get fitness and strength up. Not to bulk up but to actually strengthen up. Thanks for any help -MoCo

Everybody has a friend who's quitting everything. They love to tell you about it too. (Puffing out chest and strutting across stage) "I quit it all. I quit it all. I quit smoking. I quit booze; quit meat; quit drugs, and I feel great. I get up in the morning; eat a big bowl of oat bran. I go to the bathroom for three and a half hours. I have another bowl of oat bran and go back into the bathroom for six more hours. All I do is eat and shit! I'm gonna live forever! My colon is the strongest muscle in my body right now. I could pass Elvis through my colon right now! A quarter through my colon right now!"

That's actually advantage considering what we'll be doing to him.
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

Since you're join a gym, I suggest meeting with a fitness trainer. They can setup an excercise program that you can do at home and at the gym. Since you're a gym member you should be able to get a consultation for free. Otherwise they run about 50USD.

Just work your way up everyday, and yeah, find a partner who will actually give you grief if you fail to come in one day. Be sure to make cardio a regular part of your routine: At twenty years old, you will be much stronger and healthier if you work your heart rate up to around 140 and stay there for 30 minutes. Do this regularly, be it everyday or simply every time you work out.

And congratulations! Glad to hear the good news.

One thing you might want to consider (don't disregard this as gay right away like a lot of blokes who would benefit from it) is to think about actual gymnast training.
I say this coz you're talking about break-dancing... This is something where in terms of strength it's more to do with your strength relative to your body-weight as opposed to just overall beef-cake-dness.
If you do the gymnast routines, I'd imagine you'd be able to throw your body around in break-dance routines with no problems.

And yeah (like some previous posters said), cardio is probably the most important part of any work-out (and too often overlooked in men's workouts)... But along with a few jogs a week, your break-dancing would probably be enough for this (never done it, but I'd imagine your heart-rate would get up pretty high during practice sessions).

Yea, your heart rate goes up rapidly with just top-rocking... and thats foot work while standing[smile]
Well, i got some mates who are pretty good at breaking so I got that sussed as far as learning the throwing body around stuff is concerned but maybe when I want to do some power moves (in the far far distant far future) I might look out some gymnastic lessons.

Yea, i don't want to get buffed up or anything... just get as strong as pos.

Anyway, cheers for advice
