Ok currently my display looks like [l]http://www.masshunts.com/orly.jpg[/l] Really weird artifacts.... Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I had this problem a few months ago but it sorted itself out. Now it has come back, this leads me to beleive that it isnt a overheating problem as I have had this PC for a year now. As a precaution I cleaned out the PC anyway, to no avial. Im thinking it could be a driver\directx issue. I have reinstalled the latest drivers but again to no avial. I am considering a complete reinstall... It is not a monitor problem as I have tried two different monitors. FYI My GCard is: Radeon Saphire 9800 Pro XT Edit: Oh Thanks to anyone that can help!

Does it come when GPU temperature is high (ie. after playing games etc) ? If so, then it could be a thermal problem. Try ventilating the case by opening the side panel.

I assume that once this problem occurs it doesn't go away anymore.

I've seen that kind of artefacts appearing and most of the time it means that the display adapter is defective.

Overclocking the memory can also cause carbage on the screen.

Strangly it goes away sometimes, and now yesterday I was playing WoW for 2-3 hours and no problems. But I turn my PC on this morning and here we are...

My bro's GF4 had similar problems and there was no cure for them.

I'd suggest digging up your receipts and go to the shop where you bought the card for getting a replacement.

That sucks. Thing is why does it go away and then come back?

Such random problems are really hard to fix, and they don't really sound like a driver problem. I assume that you have upgraded all the drivers etc.

Recently I had to replace my MOBO just because the chipset fan stopped working, that sucked definetely. Replacing display adaptor is quite nice compared to that :)

Looks like either driver problem or gpu defect in my eyes

I would return the card right after i had tested the usual things: Is coord correctly installed, trying to downgrade drivers, unplug; wheeze at connector; eat salmon; plug in; test again..

Ok, I used a high pressure Air cleaner on it. Now there are only a few artifacts on some icons.

I am seriously confused, it sounds like a connecter problem.

It looks kinda like a connector problem, on a vga connector I've had the screen appear blue/green like that (can't remember if it has lines though) and a simple tighting fixed it. On the lcd in my car there is a 9 pin round connector, without being taped in the perfect position the screen has ghosting, when it's tight it's perfectly crisp.

I miss being able to work on my computer, swap things in and out, disconnect and connect everything every other week to relocate. I've been using strictly laptops for 3 years.

edit: damn I have been here for 3 years..

Well a little update - I re installed windows and the problem has not gone away.

I havent updated the gcard drivers yet though.

The monitor for my MOBO seems to think the temperatures are fine. The voltage levels seen to be ok as well........

Just an idea, could it be a PSU maybe?

Gonna by a cheap gcard tommorrow and see if the problems go away then.

Ive had problems like that when the monitor cable was jiggly and wasn't secured properly to the Graphics card. However, assuming thats all fine and connected properly, there possibly could be a problem going from the connector to the card itself... So do what your gonna do and try replacing it.
