Hey, my name is Ben and I'm going to graduate from my Electronic Game Design course in June and I was wondering if there's any game developers out here in Canada that would take like 5 minutes of their time to answer a few questions that I have about the game industry. My e-mail is poudrierbenoit@msn.com and I'd be happy and thankful for anyone that would like to help me out :P.
Most serious developers are far too busy to take the time to send you an email just to find out that the question your asking is something they don't deal with or so frequently asked that the answers are already freely available.
I suggest you post your questions here and at other forums such as the IGDA (www.igda.org/forums). That way developers will quickly be able to see if they can help and are more likely to respond.

alright then, here are some questions for you game developers that have some time:
1.What is your job like?
2.Why did you decide to work for this company?
3.What do you like most about this company?
4.What are the major frustrations of this job?
5.Does your work relate to any experiences or studies you had in college?
6.How well did your college experience prepare you for this job?
7.How important are grades/GPA for obtaining a job in this field?
8.What special advice do you have for a student seeking to qualify for this position?
9.Is there flexibility related to dress, work hours, vacation schedule, place of residence, etc.?
10.What are the typical entry-level job titles and functions? What entry-level jobs are best for learning as much as possible?

please, 5 minutes...
1.) describe your life
2.) why did you decide to live your life this way
3.) what did you like most about it
4.) what do you think of george bush's Iraq policy
5.) explain, in detail, the relevant data on stereotyping of middle eastern religions, the problems associated with the data and a long term solution.
6- 10, long long questions.
I would take obscure's advice and before you do that I would take some time to narrow down the questions and ask only the relevant ones; else, you wont get much help.
I suggest;

finally, I would shorten 10 down to "what is the best entry level position for learning in the field?"
good luck, hope you get your questions answered

What is my job like? It's like other similar jobs - Sorry if that isn't the answer you wanted but it is the answer to the question you asked. Honestly not being rude but your questions are verging on the meaningless. It would take far longer than 5 minutes for people to answer them and the likelihood of you getting the answers you want are slim. You need to read everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) at http://www.sloperama.com/advice. It will...
1. Answer lots of your questions,
2. Explain to you about asking meaningful questions.
Until you master the art of asking the right questions you won't get any very useful answers. Read that site then please come back and ask more questions.... but read it first.
Thanks for the info, the site is a great help!

Who finds the strictness of the dress code an important factor in their job? I mean lots of people would rather not wear a tie but who would refuse to work in a 'shirt & tie' or even a 'suit & tie' environment?
Personally, I could cope with a shirt&tie or suit&tie restriction, but I would be worried about the fact that the management feel it is important - coders aren't usually exposed to the customer base. So it could be symptomatic of a deeper problem, such as doing things for the sake of formality.

i would also think this way.
My respect for management would be slumpt. Thankfully (afaik) formal office wear is not common anymore.
