I just wanted to annouce that after much delay, Stunt Playground 2.0 has finally been officially released. have a look at the game screens below, and then feel free to give the game a download! ---- Stunt Playground is a fully 3D stunt driving game for the windows PC. the game features extremely realistic physics that are fully integrated into both the driving, and the editor as well. this means you can arrange the various props and jumps in any way imaginable. of course you can save and load your creations for later as well. While driving you can also record "instant replays" up to 15 seconds in length, and then playback your stunt from any angle. you can even save/load these replays, so your friends will believe you! The game features impressive 3D graphics including realtime shadows and reflections. ---- click for 1024x768 screens FileFront.com download link [Edited by - walaber on January 30, 2006 5:41:49 PM]

walaber - Great job. I've seen your work before on the Newton forums, good to see you're still working on Stunt Playground. I think you've done a great job of showcasing the versatility of the Newton library's vehicle joint as well.

Am I correct in assuming that this version of Stunt Playground uses the new Newton vehicle joint (1.50+)?

I'm also using Newton for my game, "Gang War", so I've done my share of tweaking with the Newton vehicle joints [grin].

In the previous versions of Stunt Playground I noticed that the vehicles tip over during sharp turns. It seems to happen every now and then in this version as well.

One way that I've found to fix this is to set the friction values of the vehicle/tires to 0.0001, and then to set the friction of the vehicle's body to a normal value in the collision callback. Sorry if you're already doing that, it seemed to work out well for me when I was integrating Newton (though I'm still using the 1.35 joint).

I really enjoyed the wide variety of vehicles, other than the occasional roll-over you've done a great job tweaking Newton to get good results. There is also a nice mix of obstacles/stunts to play with.

The shadows/reflections look sweet, and the game ran very smooth on my computer (2.6GHZ P4, 1GIG RAM, 256MB Radeon X700). Once I get some more free time I'm going to play around with the course construction aspects.

Anyways, great job...I look forward to future versions/updates.

Woah, that looks awesome - ready to sell from the video. I particularly liked the bit where the bus drives along the walkway which falls apart.

What kind of PC do I need to run this?

dgreen02 it's good to hear from you, thanks for checking out the game! I agree some of the cars can still flip, but personally I am happy with the way the cars handle. you should switch to Newton 1.51, you can update the physics at 60/sec and the vehicle is still stable, which is nice.

d000hg - you just need Windows XP and a 3D accelerated video card for it to run.

Not bad atall. Seems quite fun. A couple of minor kvetches: The steering system is waaaaay too sensitive (a general problem with controlling racing games with the keyboard, but a ramp-up time would still be a good idea to help with precision manoeuvres), and a couple of the cars seemed to have centers of gravity which were way too high (especially noticeable when barrel rolling in the air). Overall, great job!

Cool. I'll only make one small suggestion. It seemed that the 'dirt trail' effect, where the tires kick up dust clouding your view... they seemed to really hurt my framerate at times (mostly on one of the jam-packed levels). Maybe there could be an option to disable this effect? (Maybe there already is and I missed it! ;) )
