I know this does not belong here, but I asked as many people as I can and figure some people out there will be able to help me. I''ve been using VC++ for a while now, and recently I re-installed Windows. Now everytime I compile a program that has #include I get this error: c:\-------\include\winnt.h(1092) : error C2146: syntax error : missing '';'' before identifier ''KSPIN_LOCK'' c:\-------\include\winnt.h(1092) : fatal error C1004: unexpected end of file found I had a friend send me an updated copy of winnt.h and it still doesn''t seem to work. What''s going on? It started happening when I reinstalled Windows and can''t figure out how to get it back to where.. ya know.. my programs compile. I figure this relates to programming since that''s what I''d be doing if it remained functioning properly.. Thanks, Wglc

You might want to reinstall VC++ in the same directory you installed it in the first place. That would replace all the initialization files, but at least you would start with a fresh slate (and a fresh collection of VC++ DLLs). As for your question, it doesn''t sound like a programming problem to me. If the program in question did compile before reinstalling Windows, then obviously Windows screwed something up that VC++ needed (like a registry value or a DLL). Reinstalling seems like the best way to fix the problem.

If you''ve already reinstalled VC++, then it might be a programming problem or a corrupted file. But this is out of my area of knowledge. I use Borland C++ 5. =)

Well, it seems to be JUST that file for some reason. The rest of the files work.. Maybe I need to add some lib files in the Link tab? Reinstalling is going to be a HUGE trouble.. I tried twice and it crashed during both installs.

Like I said, I only use Borland C++ 5. The problem, to me, seems that every program out there any more -HAS- to make changes and edits to the registry, which means that any reinstall of the operating system will result in an almost mandatory reinstall of every program. A major pain and a half, but editing the registry is the BEST way to go.

Anyway, if VC++ doesn''t want to install over itself (common of Microsoft programs), you may be forced to uninstall the program. Before you do so, you''d probably want to backup all your current projects and any other files you want to keep in those directories.

If it''s only one file (winnt.h, appearantly), then I might agree that it''s an inclusion error or a library error. However, winnt.h comes with VC++, meaning that it has to be written correctly, and thus, having a compilation error is rather unusal... unless you''re using optimization. (I know the DirectX 7 include files absolutely HATE it when BC++ 5 tries to use optimization when compiling. If you are trying to optimize, try turning off all techniques, and recompiling.)

And that''s my 2 cents.

Oops...I included a ''sarcastic remark'' after ''editing the regitry is the BEST way to go.'', but appearantly, the web board decides what it wants to post.
