Okay, this is really annoying me. The fact that they already released information on "it" and all they did was tease you with little one-liners like "bigger than the internet", "a major accomplishment", and Steve Jobs from Amazon.com just recently said "cities will be built around it". AAARGH! And it''s not coming out till next year! The only reason people are taking this seriously is because the guy who invented it has made millions off his past inventions, so he is considered legit. Anybody else as vexed as I am that nobodies giving out this information? And calling it "it" is just worse ============================== "Need more eeenput..." - #5, "Short Circuit" Blade Edge Software ==============================

Go to the "ginger" thread. There is a link to the patent of IT(ginger). It looks like it is a one whealed scooter.

I think they should change the name from Ginger into the HypeMaster 2001.
Anyway, it does look like it''ll be some form of personal transportation, and it probably won''t change the world either.

People might not remember what you said, or what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel.

If you have Windows Media Player, this should help settle this. Or I think you can still go to www.theblurb.com and click on the Dateline link if you have another player.

IT apparently is the code name for inventor Dean Cayman''s 4 wheeled wheelchair. It apparently can stand up on two legs and still balance after receiving a 25 pound impact. It can navigate through gravel, sand, and up or down stairs, etc. all while keeping the user level. For people who are disabled, it has the potential to change their lives.

It''s scientists and others who are overhyping the invention. Cayman''s a modern day Edison and pretty smart, but even he has been trying to dispel some of the hype. The chair''s going to be manufactured by Johnson & Johnson and probably be out in about 2 years.

IT''s not only a power-saving mode of transportation. IT can turn into a toaster, an ironing board, an espresso coffee maker, a toenail clipper, and even a solar-powered juicer.

For just 3 easy payments of $399.99 a month, even you can reserve IT. Visa, American Express, and Master Card are all accepted, but remember, no CODs.

Just call toll free 1-800-AMERICANS-WILL-BELIEVE-ANYTHING, and get with IT!

OK, here''s what the Today Show said:

IT will have cities built around it.
IT will replace a dirty, dangerous object that people, especially people in the city, are tired of.
The creator worked with engineers from all of the big 3 automakers.
The part that got me was when they said the government may not let people use IT.

Now, I''ve been thinking about that.......
A wheelchair will not have cities built around it.
Cars can be dirty and dangerous, and city people hate all the damn traffic.
The big 3 engineers know mechanical shit real well, so it has to be big.
I saw a news item last year about a guy up in New England who made a working hovercar.......

So what if it''s a Jetson''s car?
Cities can be built without streets. They just need parking spots, even mounted on several different stories of the buildings.
It will be mongo expensive, so not too many out there, so no traffic.
The government would have to regulate IT, just like highways, so they may say "nope, we don''t want to mess with IT, the potential for dissaster is too great."

Call me crazy or stupid, I don''t care, I''m just not gonna be surprised if IT is a flying auto.

"IT" is supposedly an urban transportation device. It is not
large (it was presumably assembled in about 15 minutes from
parts that fit in two large duffle bags.)

The other thing about "IT" that _MAY_ be the revolutionary
thing is that IT is built around a Stirling engine. That
would mean cheap fuel and it runs clean. But that has been
speculation.

I''m curious to find out what, exactly, IT is.

Cheers!

Dewd. I am so getting one of those. I was more or less gonna get one before I saw that 2020 clip, but now I''m sold. Didn''t anyone notice how that wheelchair stood up on two wheels? Hmm...this better not require a license or I''m gonna crap a brick.

Wavinator, I don't want to sound like a prick, but check your own source. I just went there and checked out the Dateline report on the wheelchair.
Below the Media window is a link to other videos....click on the one from the Today Show. It is the one I watched.
That one talks about the inventor, and it mentions some of his other inventions, INCLUDING the robot wheelchair that was shown on Dateline in the summer of '99.
Therefore, I really doubt that IT is the wheelchair. IT is probably something new.

Also click on the CNBC link, it will confirm that IT is not the wheelchair.

The reason IT is not a hovering car: the inventor built two of them in ten minutes using basic tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc) in front of those major investors (e.g. Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos). So, that brings in the one-wheeled "scooter". The patent was filed on either December 14th or 19th of 2000, I can''t remember which. In other words, it''s a new thing.

If you look at the pictures in the patent application, do you see an engine? Yeah, me neither. So we have a one-wheeled scooter without any sort of visible engine. Now, keep in mind that the inventor downplayed the magnitude of this invention a few days after the initial press craze. Chances are that it''s not something that will change the world immediately, but I guarantee that there is some technology in this thing that will change the world over time. Just read the patent documents.

And yeah, being in Florida, I wouldn''t mind cruising around on one of those things instead of having to deal with the traffic a car creates. Plus it''d be easy to park, and depending on the power source, I might not even have to buy gas (now THAT''s revolutionary). And I''m sure it''ll go pretty fast for city speeds.

In any case, I wouldn''t call this "just a scooter". Seems people see a scooter-like device, but don''t bother reading about it or doing a little research on their own before making conclusions. Regardless, we should all just "wait and see". It''ll be here soon.
