Hey, everyone. Well, some of you saw my last model. It was my first model done in 3D Studio Max 6. Well, this time I went for box modeling a simple body for a character-like model. I know it's not too great. But I've never been able to do anything as far as characters, people, etc. go (drawing and everything else). LoL. But I gave it a shot. And it actually isn't too bad. The only thing I don't have the hang of yet is head modeling. Even a simple head. But that's what I'm looking into right now. =) The body was done using simple box primitives. Then I used things like extrude, scale, move, inset, etc. Let me know what you think. Remember, I'm no artist. And this is only my second model. Thanks a lot everyone! =) Thanks in advance, Matt U.

my advice to you would be to find (or take yourself) a front and side picture of someone standing in the same pose. Load those pictures into the Orthographic viewports (Front View, Side View) and then as you do your modeling, line everything up exactly. It will automatically give you better proportions and all that, but also...as you try to directly mimic reality, you'll get a better feel for the sort of geometry you need to make things work.

Also, go into it with the intentions of animating it later. Parts of the body with joints like the knees, shoulders, and elbows will need more detail (in terms of the number of vertices) to be able to bend better.

...you're coming along

I second that advice. Also, study some action figures or better yet, Master drawings/anatomy books, or your characters are going to remain as deformed as your above example, because if you don't actually know what your model is supposed to look like, how can it ever look like what you want it to?

LoL. I understand fully what you guys are saying. And I was expecting such comments. But that's what I wanted, so I can work on it. =) Thank you both for the advice. I didn't use any kind of reference pictures or anything either. LoL.

It's just that I'm getting to learn the 3DS Max environment. So I am just throwing together VERY simple (as you can tell =P) models.

Im no artist but please change the colors! it looks like a evil carrot from Mars at first sight.
I recomend jeans blue for pants and some light color (but not too bright!) for the shirt.

Over all the shape looks decent. Missing some chest muscles and the legs look somewhat like poles (what do you call them... the poles the ships sails are on).

Still pretty good for a 2nd model. I gave up modeling after I tried to do a flower for 3 hours and ended with a wierd 4 headed snake.

good luck,
Iftah.
How do you post a picture of something on here, i tried but it wouldnt work, alos what program do you use i use anim8or.

Well, first, you have to host the image somewhere. I'm using FreeWebs.com for right now. It's really a web host, but I only have images there. But once the image is hosted you use HTML tags (ex. < IMG src="ImgUrl.jpg" > -- no spaces after and before '<' and '>').

And I'm using 3D Studio Max 6. =)
