I am requesting recommendations on an engine. My Background: Programmed in Visual Basic.Net for 2 years, User of 3D Studio VIZ for 4 years Project: Create an interactive product demonstration and visualation application. Key Requirements: Engine must be less than $500 US Allow the user to select from multiple products (1 arm, 2 arm, 3 arm, 4 arms, etc) Allow the user to position the selected product on a desk Allow the user to manipulate the product. The product is a support arm made up of 3 segments and 3 joints. All 3 joints enable a 360 degree rotation of the arm and the final joint can also tilt the arm up and down. I've done research for the past several days on engines and development studios, but I have not found one that meets my needs. I am hoping you can point me in the right. As an aside, we will also be looking for a 3D artist to help with model creation. Thanks in advance for your help.

Seems like a very specific engine you are looking for. I don't think you will find one with such specific requirements.

I have used Delta3D (http://www.delta3d.org/) extensively in the past for visualization projects. It is OpenSource w/ an active development community. Funded by the Naval Academy so there is a core group of developers constantly working on it.

It sounds like you are creating some sort of robot arm? They use ODE as a physics engine, which contains rigid body dynamics.

Hope that helps.

You won't find a "product-selector-and-desk-positioning-joint-manipulator" engine. Most of that logic will need to be written by you. What you will find is an engine that lets you easily load 3D models (of a desk and of your products), lets you easily render them, gives you feedback about when the user is clicking or dragging on something, and supports the rendering of an on-screen GUI. It'll be up to you to use these features to do what you want with them.

Something like OGRE would probably do fine for this.
