Texture Max Size?

Um.. I know Voodoo cards don''t take anything larger then 256x256.
So I wouldn''t go over that. I personally don''t know about the max file size DirectX will take.

I know that voodoo cards don''t like textures greater than 256*256. But i don''t have a voodoo card ... i have a tnt with 16 MByte video ram ... 2MByte shouldn''t be a problem i thought. Hmmm when i find no better solution i must use different textures files and this also means more Drawprimitive calls ... thats bad for the performance. I am a biginner so am i wrong or right? Please help.
Just an idea (and I usually load my own textures, instead of
using the D3DXCreateTextureFromFileExA call) but make sure the
dimensions of edges of the image are powers of 2.
I believe I've loaded 2048x2048s on a GeForce I card before. TnT2 should support up to 1024x1024 IIRC.
Hope this helps!
Oh also, you can check for the max texture size supported by your card. Go to the DX SDK (from program files) and to DX Utilities. Select DX Caps Viewer. Find your card under D3D Devices, HAL, and click the Misc folder, and look for MaxTextureWidth and Height.
