I notice most of the posts here mention Delphi...
Is Borlands Builder software not good for game programming?
Or is it just lacking in good components for game programming?
Any opinions on this?
Thanks in advance...
Can I be any greener...
I believe it is just that Delphi is more widely used than C++ Builder. Nothing against C++ Builder. Delphi is just so much nicer to use (in my opinion).

I was under the impression that Builder was the combining Delphi and C++ well not exactly combining, but using C++ with pascal? written objects? they kinda tout it as "the" answer to both worlds...
Have you used builder? Or are you comparing C++ to Delphi?

Now, don''t listen to all of them...
It''s just that we''re outnumbered, thats all.
The main reason that BCB is so quiet around here is because well I''m one of the few that actually uses it all the time, and I''ve gone into No-Internet-till-I-get-this-done mode.
To be more exact, I''m going to finish the Borland DirectX library (at least DirectGraphics) before I start posting again.
The fact that my ISP has gone expensive also helps.

Are you part of bcb-tools.com? They are working on a Dx Library as well, about the only page I''ve found that actually has DirectX components being developed. They seem to cover it all.
If they can do what they say, the Builder software seems to be a very quick way to get going and the components are pretty cheap.
Well your one of the few people even talking about builder so kinda wonder if there is something bad I didn''t know about it.

Builder is a great C++ tool. It''s just that most people who use C++ use VC++. But I use both Delphi and Builder and the only difference between the two (besides the language used) is that you don''t really get the source with Builder you have to go to Delphi to get that. And the builder versions are alway 1 step behind Delphi due to the fact that builder is built with Delphi. But there is no reason you can''t build a game with Builder just as there is no reason you can''t build a game with Delphi.
Sorry if this gets double posted.. These forums are getting flakey

So maybe I don''t need C++ at all then? Just use delphi?
Is there many good "commercial" games made with delphi?
What I liked about builder is they talked about seperating low level development (components) and high level development (program "building"). It seemed to state that I could use "good" commercial components and just "build" software, not really having to "understand" the underlying technology of the components. Sounds like OOP to me...
As I tinkered with my builder1 I noticed that I would indeed have to know quite abit to create my own components for what i want. (DirectX Components) And then I realised I''d need to know DirectX as well, then Windows programming! Whew! Alot of work!
Not that i don''t like hard work but...If builder OR delphi can shorten my learning curve I''m ALL for that...

I just know one : Age Of Wonder.
I believe that Baldur Gate is done with Borland C++ compiler and his configure application(where we define spells shortcuts, levels of graphics,...) with C++Builder.

Nope!
You could say that mine is open-source,free, but not that broad - covering. I can only update during my free time, dur!
While bcb-tools.com is expensive (maybe?), bigger, etc.
Anyway, I''m still updating BCBDXlib. Its reallllyyyy much better. Many more utilities, etc. Like a TEXture app thats MDI, allows u to setup mipmaps, colorkeys, alpha.
Sorry for the 1 day wait, I can only go on during lunch break - home ISP went broke

Use whichever language you feel more comfortable with. There are many people using both, so it is easy to get help for whichever language you choose.

Bioware used C++ Builder to create the Baldur''s Gate launcher application (a form with no border and TImage components). Look through the launcher executable with a hex editor and you can see the DFM file. To create the game itself, they used Borland C++.
Another commercial game is Seige of Avalon by Digital Tome.
Another game is Artifact by Samu Games. You should see their banner advertisement at the top of the page. It is usually there.
Check out No 2 Games as well. This is where turbo, our lovely moderator, resides during his waking hours. I believe they use Delphi with the DelphiX set of freeware components.
That should be enough information for you for now.

So in your opinion why did they use the BorlandC++ for the game itself? I''m a rookie, but my guess is BC++ had better tools at the time? (Scripting?)
BC++Builder 5.5 is supposed to have all of BC++ put into it.
I guess that should be the way to go if you can make games of the quality of baldurs gate.
Thanks again :}
