Does game programming require the programer to be knowledgeable in the platform specific GUI functions, etc? For example, do I have to know Mac Toolbox (In a nutshel, Mac Toolbox is a set of about 2000 functions in every Mac ROM chip that enables the mac enviroment/GUI stuff) well to program a 2D tile based RPG game on a Mac? Of corse, I need to know Event Manager for almost any Mac program, QuickDraw to draw the graphics, text, etc, but what else do I need to know? The game is going to be 1024x full screen and hog all the CPU power anyway, so I don''t think I would have to learn all the details of Windows, Menus, Etc that enable the program to be friendly to the Mac environment. I know I would have to learn some basics, like how to switch resolution to 1024x, color to Millions of Colors, how to display dialog boxes for alerts and errors, but since games create its own world,
My take is that its something more easily portable than complicated applications like Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, etc, unless I use 3D in my games.
To tell you the truth, I''m getting sick of learning the Mac Toolbox!
I appreciate your help.
