Ok quick question for anyone who has ever ordered a 'barebones' system from tigerdirect. Do they come assembled? I couldnt find this info anywhere on the website, so Im starting to think they dont. Which really sucks, because the whole reason I was ordering barebones was because I definetly dont want to put together my own mobo/cpu/ram and that delicate stuff.

Aw, all that stuff's easy. Just wear an anti-stat strap, and be very VERY careful if you use a screwdriver to hook the heatsink on the CPU socket.

Hmm, thanks Sneftel, but that doesnt help.

Im actually ordering the computer for my parents, and there is no way in hell they are doing that, no matter how easy it might be for you (or me).

My dad will plug in an IDE hard drive, and even that will be pushing his abilities.

Does that mean they dont come assembled? Or we still dont know?

I guess it depends on your budget, but you could just pick up a cheap system from Staples for your parents.

I kind of assured my dad that I could find a much better deal online than he would ever find at any of the local stores (staples, futureshop, compusmart...).

I even asked the local stores, and they only sell prepackaged systems, which is definetly a rip off, since my parents already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, HDD. Barebones system is the way to go.

I Dont mean to be rude (I appreciate the other suggestions), but my question is this and only this:

Does tigerdirect.ca assemble their barebones systems, or does the buyer have to do it? Alternatively, does anyone know of an online canadian computer store that sells assembled barebones systems?

thanks!

From the TigerDirect website:

"Important Info About Barebones
Our money-saving barebone kits give you the opportunity to install key components at an affordable cost. Most components included in our barebones, including power supplies, are not pre-assembled. In barebones where we include a case and a separate power supply, the case specifications may not indicate the presence of an attached power supply. This is because you must install the included power supply yourself."

Thanks again Sneftel,
I had already found that text on their site, and found it vague which is why i asked here if anyone had any actual experience getting barebones systems from tigerdirect. They talk about power supplies mostly, but mention that 'most' components are not pre-assembled. Hmm I guess I better be safe and order from somewhere else...

It depends on the system. Most of them will say whether they are preassembled or not. Visionman barebones are pre assembled. Most Asus are not. Which system were you looking at?

A word of caution before purchasing from TigerDirect.
