G4

Is anybody else kind of disappointed with what has happened to G4, a former video game channel? When it started it was a quirky entertaining little channel, but recently they decided to switch focus to "general male interest" and all they seem to air now is random crap. Every two months or so they aquire the rerun rights to a show like "The Man Show" or "Banzai", redesign their website around it, then move on to something else. Not to mention they have cancelled the majority of thier original shows and "pimped out" shows like "The Screen Savers" into "Attack of the show". What does everybody else think?
G4? What happened to TechTV? That channel was great when it was a news-oriented channel. News during the day, and shows like Silicon Spin in the evening. Then they merged with G4, television for halfwit 14 year olds with ADHD. Yeah, I stopped watching about then.

Magically every time I tune into G4, the same stupid review of some Zatch Bell videogame is rerunning. They offer zero content. The only thing worth watching is Icons.
Agreed, although the Breakfast Club parody on X-Play was moderately amusing. I'm seriously thinking of cancelling it, even though its only $2 a month.
$2 a month = $24 a year. Assume you invest that $24 every year for the next 30 years with an average 15% return each year (definitely possible for the average over 30 years for a moderate invester)...adding $2 every month for what you would have spent on that shitty channel G4 (so only $24 fresh every year).
After the first year, you would have:
24(initially in) * 1.15 + 24(you put in at the end of every year)= 51.6
After the second year:
51.6 * 1.15 + 24 = 83.34
3rd) 83.34 * 1.15 + 24 = 119.84
4th) 119.84 * 1.15 + 24 = 161.81
5th) 161.81 * 1.15 + 24 = 210.08
After 5 years, instead of wasting $120, you made $90. Not so bad.
What about 30 years?
Your money would be worth $12,022. If you had only saved it, it would be worth $720. Imagine that. In 30 years, you could waste $720 on G4 or make $11,302
In 60 Years? Your money would be worth $806,495.76. Or, you could have spent $1440 on G4.
A measly $2 a month? I think NOT! Especially to spend on G4...
(I am pretty sure I did my math wrong in there somewhere, but you get the point.)

You can get your channels a la carte?
Yup. Digital cable has its benifits, too bad the picture looks like goat ass.

There is a webcast(or group of) now where all the old TechTV folk/shows are now showcased and frequently updated on. I'll edit this post as soon as I remember the damn name of it.
This Week in Tech (TWiT)
When G4 and Tech TV merged, I thought it was going to be incredible. Both G4 and TechTV didn't have enough meat to be on 24 hours a day. They both had great shows, like X-Play, Icons, Screen Savers, and to a lesser extent, Portal, Cinematech, Future Tech and that one video game show where teams competed against each other. But not enough to fill a single day with good shows. I thought they could finally offer a solid schedule, with enough Tech to be hardcore and enough video games to get the casual audience.
G4TechTV has been nothing like either G4 or TechTV. It's the TV equivalent of when businessmen buy a well-built and well-known brand and turn it into a cheap piece of junk to maximize profit.

Yup, I've got strong feelings about this one. It seems like they're competing against SpikeTV, though I'd say Spike is doing a better job. In fact, that one game review show on Spike is actually quite decent.
I find it interesting that this show, one of TechTV's former shows, is outliving many of G4's...not that I liked the ones they axed. Despite the hosts' jokes about having a minuscule fanbase, I'm willing to wager that they have the largest of all the shows on that channel.
Personally, I would have kept X-Play, Icons, The Screen Savers, Cinematech, Tech News Live, Pulse, Eyedrops, Anime Unleashed, and that one show that that was like the TechTV equivalent of Icons...Titans of Silicon Valley or something like that.
