Hi, im in a software engineering program and was recently assigned a "simple reaction diffusion model" project for my conputer modeling class. Im struggling with how im supposed to work through all of it so i wa hoping someone on here might be able to give me a hand. The only thing we are given really are these two equations which perform the reaction: A and B are the two chemicals reacting and Da and Db are constants. The instructions are: "Numerical solutions of the full euation with the diffusion can be found by making a finite difference approximation of the spatial derivatives and using simple euler algorithm fir the time integration. Adopt periodic boundry conditions. Although......." What the simulaiton will look like is a picture of the diffusion occuring, a section in the center of the screen will spread out over time etc. What im strugling with is what the upsidedown triangle is. If looked around on the net and I think it's a LaPlacian and will dictate for the diffusion will propogate, but if it is that, how do i figure that out. More specifically, how would i solve the partial derivatives with respect to x and y (2d system). If any more information is needed iwill be checking this thread and thanks in advance.

Hey...Sarnia, eh? Does that mean you go to Western? I'm at Waterloo.

Anyways, people tend not to take too kindly to homework problems on these boards, but I'll let you know what the D*upsidedown triangle is: It's a gradient vector.

Look up vector calculus and gradient vectors in Wikipedia, and things will make sense.

Cheers.
